What a shock that the billionaire owners are more greedy than the millionaire players. Im Shocked. they're not more greedy. Just greedy on a larger scale. the players are just as greedy as the owners and neither are as greedy as their lawyers/agents. Professional athletics has become really gross. If only I hadn't been brainwashed so young, I'd root for high-school kids instead.
Bugg
About gambling-the NFL fined Mike Shanahan repeatedly for not fully disclosing injuries. Yet they did nothing when the Broncos broke the salary cap rules in 1998/99 on their way to the title. Also the NFL security office regularly consults with Laz Vegas bookmakers to make sure there aren't any radical changes in lines possibly due to players or officials leaking inside information or betting themselves. By contrast from the Tim Donaghy mess the NBA does no such thing. It's beyond laughable that you can only legally bet on NFL games in one state. In European soccer there are scandals. But that may happen here anyway, and doesn't seem like there are people dying in the streets there because they bet the mortgage on Man U.

NIGHT STALKER
Whats crazy is that some fans still dont get it. Its always the players "greed". lol. What some fans don't get is that owners invest millions of dollars purchasing their teams...some build stadiums...all invest millions of dollars in their players. I would say they have a right to be a little greedy. Players on the other hand, what do they invest. Their body to play this violent sport? Simple answer...don't play. What owners dont understand is that if the players "dont play" then thats a waste of a new stadium. Seems like Darrelle is pushing the envelope...lets see who wins that one. Also, millions of dollars to the players isnt an "investment" its a salary. Big difference.

You do realize this can go back and forth like a ping pong match because I'm sure you can get a player to take his place...hence, Mr. Revis comes to mind. I think this Wilson kid could be special. Hopefully, both parties (Revis and the Jets) can come to a "reasonable" contract.

Seriously though, I understand your point. My thing is this..it has to be "business" if thats what you're doing. Right now Revis is handling his business and I have no problem with that as a fan. If this was any other form a business, something that we wasnt a fan of (meaning business that wasnt about entertainment) we'd be saying that dude should handle his business. I just think that though it can go back and forth, a major part of peoples point of view when it comes to defending the organization is based on being a fan. Im simply able to separate the two. bitonti
agreed sports is pure escapism, and it really sucks when money becomes part of the story, and it's billionaires VS millionaires it still boggles me that anyone roots for the billionaires in that scenario. Sperm Edwards
it still boggles me that anyone roots for the billionaires in that scenario. If it was known that there would never be a salary cap again, no one would give a rat's a$ how much Revis could muster from Woody Johnson. Pay him $162M every year for all I care. But if overpaying him, combined with handsomely paying so many others, causes problems with the team's ability to sign others, then the Jets should not overpay. Further, the Jets cannot cave because this will be the tip of the iceberg. Revis will do this every 2-3 years and so will lots of players thought to be "locked up" for half a decade or more. In the salary cap era, that is an impossible situation to manage.

It boggles my mind that anyone thinks the answer to the question "who is handling the situation in the most reasonable, justifiable manner" has anything to do with the question "who has the most money"

The Jets found a way to pay Pace, Faneca, Woody and Scott to monster deals... and then signed Brett favre. The idea that revis occupying 12% of the cap is a killer has no basis in reality.
