Rodney Harrison weighs in on the Patriots-Jets hate-fest

NIGHT STALKER

Rodney Harrison hasn't played for the Patriots since 2008, but he still has strong feelings about one of New England's AFC East rivals.

Referencing Tom Brady's comments that he doesn't watch Hard Knocks because he hates the Jets, Harrison said he thinks Bardy's comments represent the feelings of the entire Patriots locker room.

"Tom Brady is an honest guy, but Tom never comes out and blatantly says how much he hates a particular team," Harrison said on an NBC Sports media call. "So obviously they're very tired, fed up with the trash talk."

Harrison also noted that Jets coach Rex Ryan has become the most vocal member of the organization. Harrison said that can be particularly galling to players.

"It's one thing if a player trash talks," Harrison said. "But if a coach starts trash talking, guess what? He hasn't made one tackle, he hasn't caught the ball, he hasn't scored one touchdown."

Harrison said he thinks his old team is already getting excited about their Week Two game at New Meadowlands Stadium.

"You better believe, the Patriots have that circled with the Jets," Harrison said. "They hate the Jets, but they hate them even more because they've been coming out saying, 'This is our division.'"

As a fan I have the same view. Trash talking ect by established players doesn't bother me in the least. I actually consider it part of the entertainment. But when it comes from a coach or a rookie or even more so from a rookie coach (like Rex was last year) my reactions is STFU you asswipe.

How is stating that your goal is to win a championship "trash talking?"

Perhaps your team should shut him the **** up?

Meh ... weak sauce on the two above.. our coach has a big mouth and we do talk like the SB runs through us.. why deny it? sounds like you guys are worried we aren't going to back it up..

Unlike some posters here, I have no problem with anything Rex says. I don't see how stating that your goal is to win to pump up your own team is trash talking.

Trash talking is when you go out of your way to single someone out and say that you think they suck or you think you are better or how you are going to kick their a$$. Kind of like the Giants players shooting their mouths off before the first preseason game.

The Jets are being called out by all corners for doing things they ain't doing and I think its time the boys go out there and make these people STFU.

Christ, football season can't get here soon enough.

I'm still waiting to hear how stating that your goal is to win a championship constitutes trash talking. :confused0082:

Rex Ryan calls the Jets "the team to beat"

Posted by Mike Florio on July 16, 2010 12:01 PM ET

The Jets soon will take center stage on HBO for the latest edition of Hard Knocks. Already, the brash coach of the boldest team in the league has made his position known regarding the team's prospects for 2010.

"The buzz is this is the team to beat," Ryan says in a promo for the show, via Sean Leahy of USA Today.

You don't think statements like that are trash talk from your HC?

No. It happens to be a statement of fact. Is he supposed to say, "well, nobody is really paying us much attention" when he is promoting a TV show starring his team?

True statements can't be trash talking because "toning it down" would make the guy look stupid.

I'm all for HC's having faith and confidence in their team.

But to make a blanket statement like "we are the team to beat" is way over the top.

If the Jets were defending AFCE champs, it would be one thing, but the Jets haven't won an outright AFCE title since 1998.

Certainly not the kind of trash talk everyone seems to think Rex is saying. You'd think he's said he wants to bang Belichick's wife. Though, he probably did say that to his team in private at some point.

He said "The buzz is this is the team to beat". That means that other people are saying it.

You fail at the only thing you used to be good at: trolling.

To some extend it is perception feeding it. Pretty much anything that can be considered trash talking is going to be considered trash talking after his promoting of swagger (which Webster defines as "to conduct oneself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner"), kiss the rings, his back and forth with Dolphin linebackers, the sticking his middle finger up at fin fans, etc.

He want the to be known as someone who conducts himself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner. Jet fans should not find it surprising when he seen that way. Even if a similiar comment made by someone else would not be percieved as trash talking.

If the Jets are successful during Rex Ryan's tenure then he'll be heralded as a motivational genius. If he fails he'll look like a clown. I don't care, I love it and think it's awesome. I'd run through a wall for that man, but that's cause he appeals to my personality.

Bingo! The Jets talk about the Jets, not once have I heard the Jets talk crap about another team.

Does bitch a$$ Brady Not think his team is going to the superbowl, do any of the lowly Bills not think they are going to the superbowl?? If there is any player in the game that doesn not beleive they are going to the big game, they need to hang it up.

Im not a big talker, and sometimes I wish the Jets would tone it down, but it pisses me off even more when other people talk sh*t about us talking sh*t, the Jets are confident, WTF is wrong with that. This is plain stupididty. I dont even know why I chose to open up this post once I saw harrison's name on it.

I miss Rodney.

One of my Favorites. Wish he had spent his entire career in New England. He loves this crap...feeds into it.....helps him media-wise. You guys are soooo easy. I remember Rodney saying how the Pats were being disrespected - back in 2004. Huh? This is Rodney's M.O.

Still, and I think this needs to be said again, Tom Brady said he "hated the jets" a few years back too. Was it a confidence issue then as well? Was it because of Rex? No...obviously. It kind of endears TB to the NE fans. I've said this before too. Brady always knows what he is saying and there is always something to it.

Actually, Rodney was crying about the Pats not being respected in 2007, right after they were caught cheating and not too long after he was caught doing HGH.

Wrong. He played the disrespect card since the day he got here (New England.) That's what Rodney does. I actually have a few DVD's where his "disrespect" angle is in full display. Would you like to borrow them? :) Guess you don't know everything afterall, Zippy.

Speaking of HGH. I met a couple this weekend that live next door to some former pro baseball player. Says he is good friends with him (take that for what it's worth). Anyway, guess this guy caught for one of Clemens' one hitters? So, the guy is being asked questions regarding Roger's indictment/usage. He won't say anything about that, but the guy himself admitted that he used PED's. However, he said that he - as well as most other athletes - do this stuff to heal faster - get back from injury faster - prolong your career - max earnings.

Anyway, question: how does HGH make someone heal faster?

"Trash talk," according to Dictionary.com is "using dispariging language to demoralize opponents."

How the hell does saying that your team is going to win the Super Bowl fit that definition?

Still waiting to hear how thinking your team is the team to beat is equivalent to trashing the Patriots. Wouldn't that mean he's trashing every team in the league....or do the Patriots feel slighted whenever anybody doesn't kiss their collective a**es? Ryan is cocky and believes his team is the best, but he doesn't trash other teams despite popular opinion.

All I'm hearing from Patriot fans are excuses to defend an analyst that gets paid to give objective analysis but still talks like he's on the Patriots. Tedy Bruschi is able to set his loyalties aside, why can't Harrison?

Ding, ding, ding WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

In yet another fine example of the collective moronic arrogance of the entire New England region, the New England Patriots football team views any praise of any team not named the New England Patriots as a slight against them.
