Matt Giordano-DB- Falcons

Aug. 31 - 3:23 pm et

Falcons waived S Matt Giordano and DT Thomas Johnson.

Giordano has floated around the league, filling in whenever a team needs a special teamer in a pinch. He'll resurface elsewhere during the season. Johnson saw playing time in the defensive line rotation last season. The Falcons are stronger up front this year.

Not sure if Westy has what he wants on Special Teams yet, but Giordano is always a reliable ST'er... and safety depth wouldn't hurt. No? Just spit-balling ideas here... and waiting for a DE to pop up on the radar.

Alphonso Smith-DB- Broncos

Aug. 31 - 9:01 am et

The Broncos could be forced to cut 2009 second-round pick CB Alphonso Smith.

Smith has been outplayed by 2010 seventh-round selection Syd'Quan Thompson, who would likely not clear waivers if the Broncos try to slip him through to the practice squad. Denver gave up a 2010 first-round pick to trade up to take Smith, which makes the decision even harder.

He hasn't been cut yet... but if he is cut, and we can't get Revis signed... he's a former 2nd round pick, and you never know what Rex can get out of him.

Certainly much more than he could out of Drew Coleman or Marquise Cole. With no Revis, you instantly slip a guy like into the dime (eventually nickle) slot and tell him to make plays on passing downs.

I think Alphonso Smith is twice as better than Lowery or Coleman. They should take a deep look at him if he's cut.

Yep. Alphonso Smith is awesome.

That's why Denver is about to cut him 16 months after picking him in the second round and giving up this year's 1st for him.

Yes! Rex is master at taking players and turning them into All-Pros, just like he did with Vernon Gholston.

Do you not understand English? Show me the part where I said Alphonso Smith is awesome. I clearly said he's better than Drew Coleman and Dwight Lowery. I think you're better than Drew Coleman. Then again, it's not like you know anything.

Lowery isn't that bad. He's certainly better than Justin Miller without the return skills.

Come on, you know better than that. Lowery is HORRIBLE. He just sucks. He's always getting his a$$ wooped. He's the one who gave up the 1st down @ Miami when it was 3rd and 10. I don't mind if he's our 4th CB.

Yeah, and Revis gave up a long touchdown to Ted Ginn, JR. Does that mean he sucks too?

I don't think anyone is going to mistake Dwight Lowery for Rod Woodson anytime soon, but he's better than a second year guy that can't even make a team that invested a TON in him.

They did invest a lot in him, but he hasn't reached his full potential yet. I'm not saying he's going to be a GREAT CB, but I'm pretty sure Rex can figure something out.
