With all the Revis hate that floated around the last few months, It interests me to know if some of those supporters are going to come back to his side. All reports suggest Revis signed a relatively Jets-friendly deal. Once the games start, will you be saying "f*** you Mevi$!" Or will you support him?

1. I'll support him

2. I hope the owners see the Revis contract, as well as the Chargers situation with McNeill and Jackson, as impetus to really consider making some changes regarding a mimimum AND maximum percentage of a contract that needs to be fully guaranteed. That will prevent these holdouts, imo. If they're going to install a rookie cap, at least let them take that money they were throwing at first rounders and invest it in more deserving veterans.

I hear you, because when he's earning his pay I doubt anyone will remember the "Revis Island Summer Holdout of 2010". lol.

If he puts up anything close to a year like last year, even the most ardent members of the "Mevi$" camp will think the holdout was all just a bad dream.

There should be a 3rd option: I would root for anyone on the field in a JETS uniform, even the flight crew.

I still think he is a greedy, self centered douche. But if he is on the field in a JETS uniform I would root for him.

Caving in to his demands will cause more harm than good for future contracts.

Truth is, players want huge guarantees from the organization when they can't guarantee anything back.

I'll respect him if he earns his pay.

I'll despise him even more if he underachieves or gets injured, especially if it's due to self-inflicted poor conditioning.

One thing everyone needs to understand is that Revis is 24 years old. He had agents and an uncle telling him how much money he should get. He had an uncle who succesfully sat out and made mega-at the time-money. He had a benchmark deal given by the a-hole al davis. all this set him up for the hold out.

Again, Revis is 24. For those of us older than 35, think back to what we knew and didn't know when we were 24. We really weren't all that bright in the real ways of the world. Pure speculation, but Revis was extremely influenced by the people around him. He believes they are working in his best interest, but really, his agents are a-holes and they pretty much just got a new payday because their client held out. Do you really think Neil and Jon care what the fans think of Revis? No, Revis probably does though and I am sure the hold out affected him as well. From everything we've seen on the field and off, the man is a competitor. And competitors want to be on the field.

So, before labeling him a greedy SOB, keep those things in mind.

I'd bet money on it that the fake injury wasn't his idea either. It might have been, but I doubt it.

The deal works for both. 4 years at good money for both. Hopefully, the guaranteed money has clauses to prevent this in the future. And in 4 years, he will be only 28, young enough for another big payday. Which, if he should get one, means he's played lights out for us. I like the short term deal because it means he will still be hungry for that payday. If he had a 10 year 100 million deal, the hunger might be gone.

Pretty much how I feel this morning. And for the record, I have posted before and always said I felt he would sign before the season started. I was beginning to lose hope this week, but it has been renewed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Never stopped.

In the end it looks like he signed a deal for far less than Aso money, and that the holdup was guarantees. Go figure.

So you say, but there is nothing to indicate that is a true statement. I find it hard to believe that Rex Ryan suddenly delivered 8-figures in guarantees that Tannenbaum and Johnson were unable or unwilling to for 6 months.

More likely it was this:

"Little bro, you are under contract for 3 more years. Take the best deal on the table [the middle deal] because they will never cave in and they will never trade you. It would set a horrible precedent in dealing with every other player on the team now and in the future and they simply won't do it. So basically, you will never play football again if you keep holding out and won't make another dime. Get to free agency then you can write your own deal if you're worth as much as you think you are."

I love you, man.

Please speculate more for me. biggrin.gif

The late sources last night all said that Tanny found some extra guarantee money to put in there, and that's what got the deal done. I'll wait for the dust to settle to pass any final judgements. For now, looking at the raw numbers of a four year contract that has close to 75% guaranteed - I just tend to doubt the Jets had anything like that on the table for too long based on the contracts handed to Brick and Mangold.

So now the "sources" are correct but when the "sources" claim the Jets offered Revis some damn good contracts then you believe zero of them? lol

It was never reported that the 2 sides were ever close. If they were only a little bit away this would have been finished up weeks ago, if not months ago.

And it has not been reported that it was all "totally guaranteed" money because that would mean a $32M signing bonus. The Jets reportedly made offers with guarantees that Schwartz reworded as not "totally" guaranteed (technically correct but a lie in practical terms). This was regurgitated as the Jets effectively offering Revis zero.

Mangold is happy.

Brick is happy.

They will both die very rich men as long as the league doesn't eat itself.

Revis caved to the middle deal, that the Jets probably sweetened a little bit. But if Revis wasn't playing hardball so ridiculously, it'll show to be an amount he could have gotten months ago if he wasn't all "$16.2M or nothing."

I don't know where you get it from that the Jets don't give Mr. $1 more than Aso what he publicly stated were non-negotiable demands all along, and claim the Jets caved in to Revis.
