This may be the only way to stop Schott from motioning T-Rich out of the backfield and trying to fool defenses with him as a decoy. Maybe the only way to stop that formation was to cut T-Rich?

They said that Eli couldn't lead a team. That guy is as big a geek as anyone and he was able to lead a super bowl team. According to some, Eli's problem was that with stong personalities (Shockey, Tiki) around he was pushed to the back. After they left it was his team. You've heard kind of the same thing from Rivers, who was never a wallflower, about LT leaving.

As for Richardson, he was a FA all offseason and nobody signed him. I thought he signed for the vet minimum, so I'm not sure a pay cut is possible other than not having the contract guaranteed.
