Kentucky Jet
Ryan's Hail Mary was perfect call for Jets Jets BlogLast Updated: 8:03 AM, September 6, 2010 Posted: 2:41 AM, September 6, 2010 Comments: 5 More Print Steve Serby The bombshell news Jets fans have been waiting for arrived shortly after midnight. Darrelle Revis and the Jets have settled their impasse. Revis has ended his 36-day holdout. He has been rescued from Revis Island, at last. He will be at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center today. He will play a week from tonight against the Ravens. Rex Ryan got his man! Revis got his deal -- four years at an undisclosed amount. "I think it's a great deal for Darrelle," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. "I think it's a responsible deal for the team." Tannenbaum sounded as if he could have used some advice from Yogi (It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over) Berra: "I really wasn't optimistic -- until it was done," he said. "I really didn't think he'd be here." Ryan, accompanied by Woody Johnson, ventured to South Florida -- Gone Fishin' for his star cornerback -- and landed him hook, line and sinker. I implored Ryan 10 days ago to go get Revis -- a Hail Rexy -- because if there is one man Revis will listen to, it is Rex Ryan. And if there is anyone Johnson and Tannenbaum will listen to, it is Rex Ryan. Other than a contract that would make Revis the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, Ryan leaving his team for a face-to-face sitdown with his star is the ultimate sign of respect. The Rexorcist obviously got Revis to think long and hard about coming home, and coming home now. It is also likely that Ryan got Johnson and a "relieved" Tannebaum to make Revis a more generous offer he could not refuse. "He's our guy," Tannenbaum said. Tannenbaum threw bouquets at his head coach and owner. "Those guys going down there really was a huge step and a tremendous intangible, showing how much they cared and how much it meant to the organization to have Darrelle back." he said. Revis, whose $578,305 in fines are now the least of his worries, wrote on Twitter last night: "It not has only been hard on u guys but it has for me, too. I just want to tell y'all that I'm sorry for this process and I can't wait to get back on the field." And: "I'm comin home baby!!! Revis Island LET'S GO." Ryan's last-gasp thunderbolt poured cold water on the notion he would have been content moving forward without Revis locking up one half of the field. Mark Sanchez holds the key to Ryan's Super Bowl proclamations, but the quarterback will need all the help he can get, and Revis gives him that help. With Revis, Gang Green should again be the top defense in the league. Without him, no way. Remember this: Revis trusts Ryan more than anyone in the organization. Both sides came to the only conclusion they could: The enemy isn't on the other side of the negotiating table. The enemy is Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, and Bill Parcells' Dolphins, and Peyton Manning, and Rex Ryan's old team in Baltimore, and LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Cromartie's old team in San Diego. Revis' empty locker, situated to the right of Shaun Ellis, to the left of Bart Scott, will no longer serve as a gaping wound in the psyche of a team that needs him just as he needs them. The Jets and Revis avoided Armaggedon. Revis joining the Super Bowl party is a win-win proposition. Ryan adds his crown jewel to what is already the No. 1 defense in the league. Revis gets to play football and draw a handsome paycheck, even if it isn't quite what he wants, or deserves, or has been told by the club he deserves. The Jets have told us that they want Revis to be A Jet For Life. Revis has told us that he wants to be A Jet For Life. Hopefully, that will prove to be the case. In the meantime, hats off to Rex Ryan, the man who helped convince his star player, his owner and his general manager to make Revis A Jet For 2010 and beyond. steve.serby@nypost.com Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/rex_finally_gets_his_man_HVODQYyYo9rsnwthKHP8rN#ixzz0yn4T821n
Jetsfan80
Revis has ended his 36-day holdout. Maybe its because we've discussed it seemingly every hour over those 36 days, but didn't the holdout seem a LOT longer length of time to you guys than just a little over a month, or is it just me? Then again, Serby is so well-informed he wrote that the terms were undisclosed 6 hours after we were dissecting the contract terms here.
