ARodJetsFan
I ripped Tannenbaum (not that long ago) for letting this Revis holdout drag on the way it did. Whether I was right or wrong is debatable. At the time, I felt like I was right, but, I was lashing out out of emotion not logic. All that being said, I think the Trio of Rex, Tannenbaum & Woody Johnson is the best HC/GM/Owner combination the Jets have had since I have been a fan which is going back to the late 70's. Tannenbaum is a very good GM but it's the trio of Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson that I feel is a truly great one. I don't think there is anything that these 3 working together can't accomplish and that includes winning a Jets superbowl and maybe even more than one. Think about it, If Herm was still the Head Coach and Terry Bradway was the GM and Tannenbaum the assistant GM Revis would probably have never put on Jet Green and White again if it was left in that trio's hands to resolve this dispute, especially when you consider the kind of owner Woody Johnson was back then. Woody Johnson has really grown into his roll as an owner over the last 5 years, Terry Bradway couldn't negotiate the price of a brown paperbag in a paper mill & Bradway's reputation for being fleesed by other teams and being taken advantage of by player's agents was well documented. And Herm? Well, he was just Herm, a nice guy but a subpar, players, Head Coach that had garnered no real respect in the NFL and was not taken seriously by most. These are not the same ole Jets and this definitely is not the same incompetent, cheap Jets management/ownership that so many of us have been used to, the culture of this organization has definitely been changed for the better for the forseeable future. The way that this Revis situation was resolved is a shining indictment of that fact.

There's no denying the progress Woody has made in advancing this franchise the past five years in: A - Putting together a competent Front Office....Who have put together arguably the most talented roster in Jets history. B - Hiring a good head coach -- took him a few tries with Groh, Edwards, and Mangini... But so far it looks like the 4th time is the charm with Rex C - Building the Florham Park facility - They move out of the ancient facilities at Hofstra and actually get to practice and train in real NFL facilities. D - The New Meadowlands Stadium - We still share the stadium with a team...But its one we can call our own on gamedays. Something we never really had before. 4HCrew
this is an exciting time to be a Jets fan but I am not ready to anoint anyone great at this point. Lets see how this season plays out first..there is a lot of pressure on this team to perform and perform very well. Rex talked a great game now it is time for his team to show it on the field
lamont_jordan_rules
... i've said it before and i'll say it again ... we are very lucky to have mikey t at the top of our football pyramid! ... ... woody has certainly grown into being an nfl owner and (with no basis of fact to go on) i personally believe that we would have been the away team against baltimore this week until he threw a hissyfit about the phantom cointoss to see which team opened the new stadium ... in a tough hardfought battle between 2 teams with superbowl aspirations i believe homefield very well could be the difference in who wins ... ... and rex? ... well simply put - rex ryan is God!!! ... l_j_r

Me, you, and incarceratedbob would be a better trio than most of the HC/GM/owner combos we've seen as fans here since the 70's. That said, these guys are pretty good. Once Woody gets a little money back in his pockets, he should be even better. I like Rex a lot, but he did get lucky last year in facing a Colt team that didn't play to win in the regular season. High expectations this year. Let's see what happens. Tanny's got a number of one year rentals on this team for the big pre-lockout push. For all of his good work, the development of Mark Sanchez is the key to his legacy.

I 100% agree with everything you've said here. The only thing I would add here, is that while the defense should be a monster this year, the season will still come down to how Sanchez plays. He doesn't have to be great, but he does have to avoid the turnovers of last year for this team to be a REALLY serious contender.

It's a testament to the front office and Rex that we didn't just say "well, we went to the AFC title game, so we can rest on our laurels". They went out and improved the talent-level of the team despite having our hands tied in free agency. Whether or not Rex can bring together all these guys and have a better season than last year remains to be seen.
