Train to the game...

ECURB

So maybe I am just bad at using the NJT website but it seems like the earliest I can get to the stadium by train is around 4:15ish...

Anyone else have any input on this? I was hoping to get there between 2-3pm so any suggestions... I will be coming into NYC Grand Central and going from there to Penn or wherever I need to go.

Now you are thinking! lol

I mean on a normal day... 2-3 hours of tailgating is fine... for the opener I wanted to be there right off the bat.

Sorry Ecrub, I just had to.

I'm not sure how the train to the stadium works, I take it there are only a designated few.

If that's the case, you may want to take an earlier train that gets you as close to the stadium as possible, then spring for a cab.

Still should be cheaper than parking, or just drive.

I was thinking of taking a train right to the Rutherford station (or another , suggestions?) and then just getting a cab to the stadium, that would be fine just not sure if it will be logical or economical.

It's way too late for you to be logical or economical.wink.gif

I'm not sure how close you can get to the stadium by train, without taking the designated one.

I never tried it, but I can't see a cab costing that much more than parking if you get somewhat close.

But if you want to get there that much earlier, I guess it's worth it.

the thinking is probably that you can't bring tailgate stuff on the train (or least a lot of stuff) so the train is really more for just simply getting to the game so why have trains getting people there 5 hours before kickoff ?

just a guess

The stadium and people like "tailgate joe" take care of that stuff, the days of everyone lugging their own grill are long gone.

I am actually feeling bad for ecurb, this thread has been no help.

4:30 sucks though, I agree with you on that.

Bad enough to give me a ride at 2pm from the Rutherford Station? lol

I think I will be able to catch a taxi from there though, it is a short ride and shouldnt be too expensive.

I think they should at least have one train that goes when the lots open... but whatever.

I would think about it but I am not sure what I am doing either. Depends on my son, waiting to hear about his football practice on Monday. I was planning on leaving work at 1 and getting to the parking lot at 2. If I have to wait until his practice is over I won't be there until closer to kickoff (probably just after 6). That would suck...

If I somehow show up at 2 you better be there at 2... lol

well, I guess it comes down to money then. if the system is strapped for cash, they are gonns start out with the minumum amount of trains they think they need to maximize ridership

if the first game results in this;

they may add more trains

Anyone ever take the 161 Bus to the game? That will get me there at 2pm...

Excuse me for my lack of city travel knowledge... lol

ECURB,

I'll be at Stout on W. 33rd (btwn 6th and 7th) around 2pm for a few cold ones before catching the 3:30 NJ Transit train to the game if you're interested. I'll be the short bald guy wearing a white Chrebet jersey.

I'm in the same boat, I requested a vacation day back in early July for today. We got real busy and found out friday that I had to come in. They're letting me out at 3(Yay! <_<) and I obviously get to keep my vacation day...

Brother is driving there now and setting up shop, everything should be kicked into full gear when I get there...

  • 3 weeks later...

still wondering if anyone had taken the train from new haven to the meadowlands...

I gave up on the train... I drove to the Ravens game and saw the crowd getting on the trains and gave up.

The ride home sucked for the Pats game but was not bad for the Ravens game...

Takes me less than 2 hours to get there from Danbury... I will most likely just keep driving.
