So here I am watching this College Football game on ESPN, all of a sudden the picture melts away and now all I see if a black screen with two vertical lines running up and down. The audio is fine I just can't see a muthaeffin thing. I call the manufacturer they forward me to Best Buy Geek Squad...they can't seem to tell me what the issue is but would gladly take my $150 to merely "take a look at it"...not including price of whatever, if any, repairs may be needed. Have you guys had this issue with your TVs before? _lease help, this is the most inopportune time of the year for my 3 year old tv to suddenly die!

Let's go through some troubleshooting to isolate the problem. If you unplug/turn off the cable box, can you access your TV's menus and all that or does it still have those vertical bars and nothing else? If the former, you have a cable problem. If the latter, your TV is screwed up.

I can proceed from there with what limited knowledge I have of cable boxes and HDTVs...

Great call War.

For whatever reason, my cablebox gets out of sync all the time.

On our old TV, our problems did not disappear when we cut off the cablebox. On our new TV (old TV thankfully under warranty), the faded or askew colors are normal when the cablebox is cut off.

I can't access my TVs menus or anything. I only have the lines, even when I press INPUT on my tv's remote. The cable box is fine since I have audio. SMH

What type of TV do you have?

DLP, LCD, LED LCD or Plasma?

Depending on the type of TV, the cost maybe be simple or it may just be time to go to pickup a new tv.

Also, is your tv in an entertainment console or hanging on a wall, or on a pedestal. Sometimes those entertainment consoles trap the heat from a TV and they over heat and you get those non-picture aspects.

What brand of TV do you have? Have you tried to google the brand and model number to see if anyone else has had the similar problem?

Did you visit AVforums yet? They are good for searching for solutions to common audio or video problems with electronics.
