Integrity28
Shonn Greene-RB-Jets Sep. 14 - 7:28 pm et Coach Rex Ryan revealed that he's still trying to figure out why Shonn Greene never touched the ball again after a second-quarter fumble Monday night. Ryan said he hasn't had a chance to talk to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer or running back coach Anthony Lynn to find out their reasoning for benching Greene. "Shonn is a huge part of what we do and who we are," Ryan assured. Earlier in the day Ryan indicated that LaDainian Tomlinson would split carries equally for the foreseeable future. Still trying to figure it out? Are you ******* kidding me? Figure it out? The ONLY reason Greene should have been benched is if Rex told him he was benched. Plain and simple the division of the offensive and defensive responsibilities on this team is sophomoric, at best. Its as though Rex says to Schotty, "Hey Schotty, everything good with the offense?" and Schotty responds, "Yup." And that's that. Sheesh... Any other established HC in this league would have known exactly why their stud RB was benched 1 play after it happened. What the hells is going on with this team right now? I mean, the lack of discipline that has become front-and-center the past couple weeks is horrifying... but worse yet is the lack of communication between the guys in charge of the team!!! Holy crap. NIGHT STALKER
I have to agree...HC should have his finger on everything going on in the game and something as important as your starting RB being sat and you don't know why? Clueless.
Lupz27
This sucks cause I never want another guy calling or scheming the Jets defense ever again, but that looks unlikely if Rex doesn't get COMPLETE control of this team ASAP. Maybe he is a little to much like his father not giving 2 sh*ts about his offense.
GodWearsAGrayHoodie
My feeling all a long about Rex has been he is a damn good defensive coordinator, among the best, but I don't think he has what it takes to be a head coach.

Mattyandthejets
First of all, Rex had his plate absolutely full with the ridiculous mental retardation of our secondary. No secondly most head coaches dont pay attention to both sides of the ball during the game if they are an offensive guy they watch the offense, if they are a defensive guy they watch the defense. I guarantee you lovie smith isnt caring about the offense when he has martz. It is ridiculous to bash rex over this right now, he is a breath of fresh air for this organization and I want him to be here until he retires. With him we are virtually guaranteed to have an elite defense every year, when was the last time that happened with this team? So please, dont hate on Rex over this, his coaching is on the bottom of our list of concerns.
dbatesman
I guarantee you lovie smith isnt caring about the offense when he has martz. Comparing Rex to Lovie Smith isn't exactly a vote of confidence. I wouldn't take this at face value. Does anyone really believe he hasn't talked to Schottenheimer or Lynn? T0mShane
I think Rex is playing it coy there. Obviously, he knows why Greene was benched and who did it. It's his way of throwing Schottenmheimer under the bus. IMO, it's ghey and unprofessional, but at the same time it's awesome because Bill Callahan moves closer to taking control of the offense. serphnx
Either he doesn't pay any attention to the offense at all, or he seemingly thinks turning the ball over and playing like a zombie is a good idea on offense. He also apparently can't tell the difference from 5.6 vs. 1.8, or whatever the ypc numbers were for LT and Greene respectively. I have Greene on two of my fantasy teams, took him high with a 2nd rounder each time, but I'd rather he is benched and LT starts. I still maintain that Greene is a Marion Barber III clone, and can not carry the load himself. Actually MB doesn't fumble much, so right now Greene has some catching up to do. LT is a veteran, sure handed back with great pass catching ability and solid blitz pickup. He is the guy you want back there with a 2nd year QB with a clueless OC, and an O-line that misses blocks sometimes (I'm looking at you Slauson). Slausson didn't miss the block he just got owned by Ngata, kind of reminded me of how Big Jenks (well miss you big fella) owned the Texans C last year. SenorGato
Greene had trouble holding onto the ball all night. This just sounds scummy as hell by Rex...I know we're not allowed to be weary of him but his act will get tired fast if he doesn't get his sh*t/team together. I don't know if Rex has the authority to demote him straight out. You know how Woody likes them pennies.

If that was a condition of taking the HC gig here--keeping Schottenheimer--then I seriously worry about the stewardship of this franchise in the decades to come. Remember when you defended Mangini, you also were defending Schotty to me all the way back then? That was awesome. Your commitment to futile and lost causes is commendable. Sperm Edwards
Yup, think 2007 with whats his face at that spot... Slausen is way better. First NFL start against a tough defense? I'd say he more than held his own. Doesn't mean he isn't going to be a liability this season, and Ngata or not I didn't like seeing him pancaked like that. But he's far more likely to get better than worse; Faneca is more likely to get worse than get better.

But what does Schotty have to do for you to start wanting him out of the play calling and/or OC responsibilities ? Something more significant than lose the first game of the season to the Great Leader's ex-team that has had a top D for more than a season. If you guys would gtfo the ledge it'd probably hit that one loss isn't the end of the world. This is a better roster than the one that just went to the AFCCG and they're probably capable of better performances. I'd guess it's more likely that the Ravens D just did what they tend to do to offenses than it is that the offense is going to look like that for the whole season.
