As the Jets head to sensitivity training, Coach Ditka scoffs at reporter sexual harassment claim

By Caroline May - The Daily Caller 11:16 PM 09/14/2010

The country can breathe a sigh of relief now that the New York Jets will be going through a sexual harassment “educational session” sometime this week or early next week. And, according to the The Association for Women in Sports Media (AWSM), it’s about time!

But old guard Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka told The Daily Caller that the whole situation is just plain “stupid.”

“The country is full of nonsense not common sense now! Let’s go back to common sense. Come on guys!” he lamented.

The Jets are currently under investigation for allegedly sexually harassing Mexican T.V. sports reporter Ines Sainz with catcalls and close call footballs.

Sainz did not bring the initial complaint. The Association for Women in Sports Media raised the issue to the NFL Saturday evening, after receiving notification of the incident from Star-Ledger Jets reporter Jennifer Vrentas.

“AWSM remains steadfast in its long-standing commitment to ensure all women in sports media are treated respectfully, equally and professionally while working in the locker room. We will remain on top of this situation,” the group said in a statement – which begs for a “that’s what she said” retort.

While the team is under investigation at the behest of a third party interest group, Sainz remains unsure as to whether or not she was harassed, preferring to let the NFL make the final judgment. “I am not the one who say the charge or tried to involve all the team in this situation,” Sainz told Meredith Vieira on NBC’s “Today Show.”

Jaclyn Friedman, executive director of WAM! (Women, Action & the Media) told TheDC that although Sainz did not feel like she was harassed, sexual harassment is not emotional. “It is the sexualizing of an employee in the workplace. So the difference between sexual and sexualizing is that somebody is being treated as though their value is solely reduced to their sexuality,” she said. “It is not about how you feel.”(So she got the job not because she was Woodward or Bernstein, but because she was hot, but no guy should look at her; very sensible; heck make her president or put her in charge of NASA, but don't DARE look at her hot, uh...)

Friedman denies Sainz has any culpability, no matter her skin-tight outfit, saying the only way to avoid harassment is to not be around harassers. On the flip side, Coach Ditka considers the attention Sainz received to be somewhat complimentary.

“She’s an attractive girl, that’s why she combs her hair, wears those tight jeans, and all that make up,” he told TheDC. “She had no room in those pants.”

Gary Aiello, NFL spokesman, told TheDC that the Jets reached out to AWSM board member Joanne Gerstner to initiate the education process. “They are going to work that out, I think Joanne, or a representative of the association is going to be a part of it plus a special counselor on workplace conduct to talk to the team,” he explained.

Aiello said that he could not think of any other instance of a team having to go through sexual harassment training classes.

The investigation is still underway and according to Aiello any punishment is “yet to be determined.”

According to Ditka, however, the whole thing is nonsense for people with empty lives.

“If they didn’t have this what else would they be doing, watching ‘Days of Our Lives?”

Awesome, Carolyn.

And if there was a guy with a Mens-Cosmo body, wearing similarly tight, painted-on clothes designed to outline his assets (or asset, such as it might be), call me crazy but I'll bet a locker room full of guys would still make out-loud comments.

Bunch of guys with elevated testosterone levels. Keep women out of the locker room unless they want to service all the men or at least bend over for spankings.

"She had no room in those pants!" :rl:

You want a double standard, how about the double standard where the players have to guess whether this woman is in reporter mode or model mode?

If this woman wants to be taken seriously, she needs to stop posing for pictures in bikinis and posting them on her TV network's website.

Heh.

Sounds like a classic case of "why do all the boys like her, and not me?" by Jenny.

Grade school jealousy... and they say we are the ones that can't evolve.

It's all bullsh*t...period. She is an attention whore and that about sums up her career. She reports for a TV station in Mexico, right? Does that country really give a sh*t about American football? It's like a reporter from here covering the Cricket Championship in Great Britain...who gives a sh*t?!

This is nice. There is a commercial running right now by the US government which states that sexual harrassment is not about intent, but about how the conduct "feels to the victim". In this case, the victim didn't feel harrassed, but that's irrelevant too? The only thing that is relevant is how these stupid ****s feel about it? Ridiculous.

We all would. If it were covered by Ines Sainz.

I think this is a non-issue for the team and the lady. Mexican (and Spain's) culture are still rather patriarchial and although it's not cool, she's probably used to this stuff.

At the end of the day, she's the most famous reporter in Mexico with no harm done. The sensitivity training is the right thing to shut up anyone in the US who has a problem.

She's the girl who would sit slumped on a couch, during a wall-to-wall party where everyone's guaranteed to get laid, nursing the same plastic cup of beer for the past hour, rolling her eyes to one of her hippo friends, about how "this is lame" as every guy ignores them both.

What kind of busybody bitch files a complaint on someone else's behalf, against the supposedly-offended person's desires?

Sainz's reaction seems to have been a normal one along the lines of "Meh - boys will be boys. Especially around my fine a$$."

Nice Bod but Saenz's face kinda looks like the Phantom of the Opera.

What's your take on Frumpy Vrentas?

She's good looking enough I think. Plus a lot of it is not pure face picture stuff so much as how she carries herself. I'm sure you can attest to a guy finding a bubbly/fun girl with a kick-a$ body attractive even in the absence of Halle Berry's (surgically enhanced) perfect face. It's all about inner beauty. Inner beauty and a ridiculous butt.

Anyone catch Mrs. Sainz on her "Why Me" TV tour?

She wants to know why she's an objectified sex symbol.

She's doing these interviews wearing a top that's unbuttoned down to her sternum, bra and cleavage busting out all over, and she wonders why men giggle.

Let's see Ines, you work for a network that sells sex, you wear bikinis, wedding dresses and see through tops as part of your shtick, and go into mens locker rooms wearing freshly painted jeans.

Sorry, you don't get much sympathy from me. Try acting appropriately one day, and maybe people will act appropriate around you.

Thank you. Its amazing how when the story first broke this woman said she didn't feel harassed and then once people actually started paying attention to her, she feels victimized.

Haha! Actually, Mexico is pretty aware of American Football. A lot of Cowboys fans, who had no trouble selling out a 100,000 seat Mexico City stadium a few years back. And they seem to be very aware of Mark Sanchez, which is why this chick was there in the first place.

But that's all off topic.

On topic, Ms. Sainz would never have brought this case herself. She's fully, 100% aware of exactly who and what she is, and how she got to be that way. And I'm disappointed in Judy Vrentas for bringing it, as she's been pretty good on the beat since she started. And I don't think she'd look bad at all if she just threw her shoulders back, smiled, and displayed a little confidence. smile.gif She's currently a long way from TV ready, though.

Not based on the interviews she's given in the last 24 hours.

She suddenly seems to have decided that it was verbal barbs tossed her way and not the overwhelming desire to stare at penis that was making her uncomfortable in the Jets locker room.

I honestly haven't paid attention, but I have no doubt she's milking it. I'm sure she'll sell a couple calendars in the US over this.

Sainz's only business in that locker room was to give head dressed like the whore she was.

If she's there to conduct a full-fledged, legitimate interview, dress and act like a professional. That attention whore is doing a disservice to all of her fellow female sports reporters who do their job day in and day out, dressing and acting in a professional and competent manner.

I am ashamed to know you. She dresses like all women should ideally dress. Any that don't have her body should have burlap sacks with eye-holes draped over their heads and bodies.

My guess is that Vrentas was put off by Sainz' lack of outrage at whatever comments may, or may not have, been made about her. One woman wants to be taken "seriously" the other women just wants a story - and if that means shaking what God, your gym, and/or your surgeon, gave you to get it, so be it. You have two completely different mind-sets here.

Good point Theresa. I think you'd be more like Sainz than Vrentas. You'd already proposed to Brady several times before Sainz did, so there you go.

Mike Ditka's quote is priceless “The country is full of nonsense not common sense now! Let’s go back to common sense. Come on guys!” he lamented.

This chick is a model/reporter. She reports for a Mexican TV. She is a bikini model. And she had no problem with her interaction with the JETS players. She did even make any noise about it.

But the 'stick up the a$$, i am so easily offended for no reason' attitude by people like Florio and Jenny Vrentas has overblown this issue out of proportion.

Now once the women lib group get a hold of this gold mine to help keep themselves relevant how can they let go. It does not matter if the reporter was not offended. Does not matter if the reporter felt she was NOT EVEN harassed. But hey somebody thought otherwise. Lets go in defcon mode and make hay while the media sun shines.

Mean while the women lib group will just be defending someone who "Undermines Every Female Sports Reporter Who Knows The Game."

Even king lib keith olbermann says so: http://www.sportsgrid.com/nfl/olbermann-ines-sainz/

That's the issue with out media. They create these sensational stories out of nothing with the accompanying douche bag fake outrage while real news goes unreported.

This reporter is essentially 'Kim Kardashian lite'. She is to sports writing what Kim Kardashian is to acting. And well now I am sure she is going to be the next contestant on Dancing With The Stars.

This is the problem. News is no longer reported. It's created by "news" agencies. Why wasn't any investigative reporter working out the details, following up leads, trying to determine the amount of room in this woman's pants. Surely Mr. Ditka was exaggerating? All pants have some room, no. Because if this woman truly had no room in her pants, then I believe she has no valid complaint. Pants need room. God, I love old-guy speak.
