Schmidt
Anyone have more info an this? I heard two different versions 1. Rex and Shotty got into a shoving dispute and 2. They had a heated, but not physical, dispute. Just to put my two cents in...I hope Rex "hard knocked" some sense into Shotty because for as long as I can remember he has done NOT MUCH since he's been here. Also if he dosen't become more like Rex's aggressive attitude...HE SHOULD BE GONE ..... BYE, BYE!!!!!

SenorGato
And I hope Rex punched Schotty and questioned him as to how the Jets offense has sucked for 5 years under 3 different QB's and two different head coaches. I hope Schotty quietly explained to his dumber, louder boss that it's probably because 3 different quarterbacks and two different head coaches isn't exactly the sign of a stable/good at anything franchise. It's not like Schottenheimer walked into a perrenial offensive powerhouse and tore the walls down...or even painted over them. Usually when a team has so many people playing QB and so many people playing HC there's something deeper than "zomg wrong plays called" going on...I know I know...that's ridiculous. It's all Schotty's fault. Also...Schottenheimer hasn't been here 5 years. Just saying. 4 years and 1 game...the 1 game coming after Schotty was part of the same team that just went to the AFCCG...Wow this stuff hurts my head. Well, the common thread through those 4 years has been Schottenheimer. Even with a Hall of Fame QB behind center we had an average offense. Before Schottenheimer got here, the offense was better even with Pennington, and both Pennington and Favre had significantly improved seasons after they left for other teams. I said 5 years because the evidence thus far says the offense won't be any good once again.

Also, with a HOF QB behind center we went 8-3 and topped the two top records in the league in their own houses. Please stop rewriting history to fit your purposes. Even more also, no Pennington and Favre still played like Pennington and Favre when they left here. "The evidence thus far" in year 5 is one f*cking game. That is not any kind of substantial evidence in anywhere else but a warped thought process.

For a simpler mind...sure...As f*cked up and sh*tty as I might sound sometimes I hold my thinking to slightly higher standards. Plus, I remember the basic lessons I learned when I was taught the concept of cause and effect when I was 5. Chad Pennington didn't do anything in Miami he hadn't already done here. Unsurprisingly, despite this vast improvement you people keep bringing up he's not starting for anyone, including Miami, today.

Yes, they sucked because no football team should have the average age of 1,000,000. The '07 Dolphins weren't talentless... And lol...'07 is the ONLY LOSING SEASON the Jets have had in the past 4 years. I don't get you people...at all. You're so dead set on Schotty being the cause of all ills that you don't even bother to f*cking think these things through. Also...again... - In '06 and '08 Chad Pennigton starts all 16 games. - In '06 and '08 Chad Pennington sets career highs in passing yards. - In '06 and '08 Chad Pennington takes two crappy teams to the playoffs. ...Those seasons don't sound similar? '06 Pennington was expected to play better than he did? '06 offense was supposed to be better than they did? You know he pulled his '06 off with Kevin Barlow as the starting RB for alot of the season?

The players have changed and the head coach has changed, but our OC, you know, the guy who runs the offense, has been here throughout. Don't see why this is difficult to comprehend. Sucked so much that we've been playoffs two of the four times, had only one losing season in the 4 times, we were "30 minutes from the Super Bowl" in one year, AND this was pulled off with 3-4 different starters with varied levels of experience...Again, why should I buy this stuff? What do you think happens to the offense if Schottenheimer were to be fired? What do you think happens to Schottenheimer? What do you think happens to Sanchez? Does Schotty get sent to hell where he'll never coach again, meanwhile in Jets land everything rights itself? Is that how you imagine it?

We had, by far, the top defense in the game last year an only by a miracle got into the playoffs at 9-7 once Rex intervened with the offense and decided to have Schotty simplify the playbook. The other postseason year, 2006, we squeaked in at 10-6 and got trounced by the Pats in round 1. We've had the talent to do better than we have offensively, thanks to our GM (Tannenbaum), and Schottenheimer has also been able to lean on the best OL coach in the game (Callahan) for help. Still, the offense has sucked.

I think firing Schotty and ending up in a situation where we have an offense better than 22nd in the league is a risk most of us would be willing to make. With the skill players we put on the field every week, my thinking is that a veteran OC would have no problem eclipsing Schotty's accomplishments over the past 4 years. You insinuate that we are all being over-reactive to a bad game. However, you are being equally over-reactive in assuming Callahan or Cavanaugh couldn't do better that what we saw Monday. I might consider the points you are trying to make, IF the offense wasn't completely impotent on Monday. Given the performance Monday, on top of the previous years of watching this team struggle to move the ball... there is nothing, NOTHING you can say that would make my opinion on Schotty waiver. He is not part of the solution, therefore he is part of the problem. I would consider firing him, addition through subtraction.
SenorGato
I'm just going to bow out of this whole Schotty thing. It's clear there's no room for logic in this, and even less room for the possibility that fans will understand that coordinators don't affect the outcome of a game or unit nearly as much as a player, the QB no less, can/will. Get your tears/whining/bitching out and realize there's 15 more games to play. He is not part of the solution, therefore he is part of the problem. And stop cliche-ing me to death. The only actual solution is better play from the players. Crazy concept with a sport, but I think there's some grounds to believe thats true. Revis is the GOAT
stop hating on schottenheimer, he doesn't have much to work with. i mean, look at the blocking. all it is basically a probowl lt and an all-pro center. as far as the skill positions....all he's got is a 6'3" 220lbs 4.4 receiver, and a terrific possession receiver. and a te that no linebacker in the league can cover. and a probowl fullback blocking for a future hof'er and a young battering ram. and a qb that was drafted 6th overall with excellent physical tools and a top-notch work ethic. schottenheimer's been hanfcuffed by a lack of talent, he can't do it all with just coaching, he's needs players too.
