Jerod Mayo thinks Revis is faking

Posted by Mike Florio on September 17, 2010 1:46 PM ET

From Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, via WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show by way of PatsFan.com, comes an interesting theory that we thought was used only by aging, gray-haired quarterbacks who hope to be perceived either as heroes or heroic.

Mayo thinks Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis really isn't injured, and that the injury is being used as an advance excuse for being stranded on his own island -- or as the basis for trumpeting his performance despite being hobbled in the event that Revis shuts down Randy Moss on Sunday.

"Look, he's healthy, he's 100 percent healthy," Mayo said. "I'm not buying into that."

Mayo thinks that the Jets don't want the Patriots to know Revis is completely healthy.

"I wouldn't want anybody to know," Mayo said. "t's just a decoy. So then everybody can be like, even if he goes out and has a great game, everybody will be like, 'Oh, he's the greatest, he has a tender hamstring. . . . I'm not buying into that."

It's good to see that Mayo has become so damn cynical at such a young age. And it's hard to disagree with him.

Hey, the thought had crossed my mind as well, not as much from a crutch standpoint, but more from a hope that Brady will target the Slouch and allow us an interception or two.

That was my thinking as well. If Revis would fake an injury with the expectation of getting burned and wanting a built in excuse, he shouldn't even bother to dress for the game. OTOH, I could see them faking it trying to challenge Brady to throw on a health Revis with the hope of an int.

Buy it b*tch!

That's what happens when a guy doesn't get value reps in training camp.

But how can Mayo tell he is faking ?

Actually he can't.

BB's philosophy is to pay zero attention to the opposing team's injury report or any injury speculation regarding the opposing team and prepare and practice as if all 53 players on the opposing roster are 100% unless they are reported as out.

Sounds if Mayo was inarticulate in expressing that the NEP are preparing for the Jets as if Revis is fully healthy.

Not that is is a big deal. Mayo and Revis will not see the field at the same time.

It's an interesting concept that I hadn't even considered-and I hope you Pats fans are right. All I know is if Revis IS actually really about to pop a hamstring I'm going to get really pissed and I can see myself falling back into full on "Revis is an a$$hole" mode again for holding out so long and now this is what happened BECAUSE of it

Moss is going to burn a healthy Revis.

Bank on it.

Moss I'm not worried about now Welker is another story he's going to school either Wilson or Cromartie tomorrow afternoon-did you SEE Revis blanketing Mason all night the other night? Him I ain't worried about-Moss might get a few maybe 4 or 5 catches

I tend to think he ain't faking.

These types of mind games are really not Rex's style and Tanny wouldn't be behind it, his wallet is already a little lighter from Mangini playing with the injury report. Overemphasizing or underemphasized the extent of an injury -- (something the Patriots do regularly) I could see Rex doing. Are you really going to limit a guy who missed training camps reps in practice just to play a mind game?

That being said. Patriots would be foolish not to prepare for the game as if Revis is 100%. And then if Moss burns him cause of his injury just see it as a bonus, instead of an expectation.
