Braylon Edwards Busted for DWI

This is the kind of thing that can happen when you mix a lot of questionable personalities together. Braylon just drank himself out of a new contract; I hope it was worth it.

Thank the Lord we get Santonio Holmes in two weeks.

That's if he doesn't get busted for weed again. Jets and Jet fans shouldn't be surprised, this is what happens when you trade for scum bags.

Paris Hilton... busted... felony cocaine possesion... No Jail. Lindsay Lohan... (I do not even have to comment about Lindsay) However, a black man in the NFL... forget about it. This dude will have the book thrown at him.

#1. Edwards isn't going to jail for DWI. He'll get a suspended license just like anyone else.

#2. Both Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan (not to mention Martha Stewart) did time behind bars.

#3. No way the cops could know he was black if he was behind tinted windows at night.

#4. He was behind tinted windows at night in hookerville. And had a companion in the car. My guess...cops did him a favor by hitting him the DUI instead of the soliciting charge.

On Mike and Mike they broke it down like this:

DWI/DUI is not under the personal conduct policy its under the Substance abuse policy. 1st offense under the substance abuse policy yields a fine of 1/2 a game check. His assault charges have no bearing on this...according to Mortensen

If Rex had any control of his football team, or an ounce of discipline in his pinky, he would make Edwards inactive (only the league can suspend) for the game against the Phins.

It will be very interesting to see how Rex handles this.

Keep twisting. rolleyes.gif

Rex has the right to let the league handle it without coming off as having no "control of his football team, or an ounce of discipline in his pinky."

If the windows are tinted, how can you tell he's black?

I guess... ?

Never seen a tinted windshield, though.

F-ck that. Driving drunk is stupid and dangerous, he couldve killed someone.

JETS need to suspend him and do it now.

Agreed. Make him go to a drunk driving class, take his money with a fine, put a curfew on him, but no reason to not let him play. If you got a DWI would your boss send you home from work? Probably not. Punish him, move on play football, and win. Suspending him only gives him more time to drink.

Most windshields are slightly tinted for sunglare, and are nearly impossible to see through in the dark unless the interior is illuminated. Nice try, though.

Except the personal conduct policy and the substance abuse policy have no bearing on each other. Nobody knows if he has a strike for the substance abuse policy. Nice try though...

Exactly. The only reason Santonio Holmes got 4 games is because it was strike 2 under the Substance Abuse Policy. This would be the Beards first offense. Not trying to make excuses but that is the NFl policy. Im sooooooooo pissed right now, just when things were looking up.

f*ck THAT! The guy made a mistake and I hate to break this to all you "suspend him" people but like it or not we need him right now. At least against Miami, if they want to suspend him after fine but no need to act tough and put our team in jeopardy. Let the league handle it.

Braylon Edwards arrested for DUI

New York Jets receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested on a drunken driving charge in New York early Tuesday morning.

The Jets expressed their disappointment in the receiver in a statement Tuesday.

"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning. The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment," the Jets said.

"We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."

The 27-year-old Edwards was pulled over for having overly tinted windows in his Range Rover. Police smelled alcohol and Edwards blew .16 on a breathalyzer -- twice the legal limit, the New York Post reported.

Edwards, who caught a touchdown pass on Sunday in the Jets' victory over the New England Patriots, is currently in police custody and will be arraigned later Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

The Jets acquired Edwards, a former first-round pick out of Michigan in 2005, from the Cleveland Browns only days after he was accused of punching a man outside a Cleveland nightclub in October 2009. The victim was an acquaintance of LeBron James. Edwards pleaded not guilty at the time, but he ended up pleading no contest to misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct. He received probation and a $1,000 fine.

Edwards was required to make that plea in person, and it took him away from the Jets for a day as they prepared for a playoff game last Jan. 12. At the time, the Jets feared he would be slapped with a one-game suspension from the NFL, but they learned in late June that there would be no sanction from the league.

According to a league spokesman, DUIs are reviewed under the NFL's substance-abuse policy. There is no automatic suspension under any circumstances. The league isn't commenting on a possible outcome or specifics.

The first substance-abuse offense is not subject to suspension for a player, only a fine, which is half of a game check with a maximum of $50,000. It is not known if Edwards ever had a violation under the substance-abuse policy (the program is confidential) and if he would be subject to a suspension for a second offense.

The assault charge that Edwards previously had while in Cleveland is covered under the NFL's personal conduct policy and the two can't be used together against a player. On Monday, Edwards was chastised by coach Rex Ryan -- publicly and privately. In a team meeting, Ryan announced that he was prepared to give Edwards a game ball for his performance in Sunday's win, but he decided against it because of a taunting penalty after his touchdown reception.

"I love the way he played -- he was really into it -- but you're killing us," Ryan told reporters. "You can't put the team in that kind of jeopardy." Ryan added, "I appreciate how passionate he is, but you don't want to be selfish," Ryan said. "That's basically what that is."

This will almost certainly be Edwards' final season with the Jets. In the offseason, he signed a one-year tender for $6.05 million, and he's due to become an unrestricted free agent in 2011.

The Jets were heavily criticized in the offseason for acquiring players with off-the-field issues. They traded for wide receiver Santonio Holmes even though he was facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He has served two games.

Also, they traded for cornerback Antonio Cromartie, whose tenure with the San Diego Chargers was tainted by paternity issues. At the time of the trade, in March, Cromartie had fathered seven children from six different women and was late on $25,000 in child-support payments. To help Cromartie, the Jets fronted him $500,000 of his $1.1 million salary.

The Jets will likely be without two of their top three receivers for Sunday night's game in Miami. They have only three other receivers on the roster, Jerricho Cotchery, Brad Smith and David Clowney. They could look to re-sign veteran Laveranues Coles

If this were a player from say Miami,NE or Dallas we'd all be calling for his head. Ronnie Brown got busted for DUI and we were all callin him thugturd King etc, it should be no different because The Beard wears Green & White. DWI is no mistake, he knew full well he was wasted. With all the $$$ he has you would think he would have a driver...why would you even get behind the wheel when you know you are drunk? It was stupidity on his part, not a 'mistake'

I don't need to carry this very far. There are many reasons the police could suspect the driver of the vehicle to be African-American without ever seeing him. If we get any pictures of Braylon's car, we'll have a better idea it provided them with any clues.

However, I'm confident there was enough artificial illumination to see thru the windshield at 5AM at 34th and 12th in NYC.

Agreed. Put him in a treatment program and make him do community service. You don't send him home from his job.
