Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez said wide receiver Braylon Edwards is "more than just a teammate -- he's a family member'' and said he and the rest of the Jets will "do what we can to support'' Edwards in the wake of his arrest early this morning on charges of Driving While Intoxicated.

Speaking on WEPN 1050 AM radio, on his weekly interview with talk show host Michael Kay, Sanchez stood behind the statement made earlier in the day by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, in which Tannenbaum said the team is "disappointed'' in Edwards' actions and is "reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures.''

Asked by Kay whether he is worried Edwards' arrest could be a distraction to the team, Sanchez said, "I don't think guys will dwell on anything like that, will let this affect their preparation. And I don't think Braylon will, either. He's going to want to move on as quickly as possible. We'll address it as a team -- I'm sure Rex (Ryan, the team's head coach) will have the right message, like he always does, for us. And we'll be able to get on with our week.''

Earlier in the afternoon, running back LaDainian Tomlinson was also on the radio with Kay, and he also said Tannenbaum's statement will have to speak for the team.

But when Kay asked him whether the incident could be a potential distraction for the Jets, Tomlinson also said he didn't think it would be.

"I really think sometimes, when you’re on a team, you don’t want to judge anybody’s situation, because it can happen to anybody,'' Tomlinson said. "I mean, this type of stuff can happen to anybody. And so, as players, we’re always behind our brother, instead of trying to worry about what it can do to the team. Because, really and truly, it can do nothing to the team. If Braylon is in that locker room and we’re constantly keeping him up, just being there for him, whatever he needs – that’s what a teammate is about.''

I usually like Kay but he was such a joke today it was infuriating, at one point after basically saying Edwards should be thrown off the planet and how Edwards would never ever ever ever play for a Kay owned team he IMMEDIATLY cut a promo for a can't miss interview with Yankee legend ( and admitted steroid cheat ) Andy petite, hahahahahahahaha, hey micheal it's a good thing that Dwight Gooden or Daryl Strawberry never played for the Yankees, Oh wait........

LOL, GREAT GREAT point/post. There really is so much irony in this. It really is frustrating. And it's only going to get worse. As the knives and pitchforks come out if nothing else maybe...hopefully this brings the team together even more.

If only he had more snacks, he would have blown less. (pun intended)

In all seriousness I would bet money that's why they left so late, I bet he didn't have a drink for a couple hours smoked weed or whatever until he was like alright dude it's 5 in the ******* morning, I'm fine let's get out of here. Tough break I suppose.

I suppose it COULD happen to anybody, LT, anybody who happens to drink twice the limit and get behind a wheel. Dumb statement.

lol no kidding. It could happen to anybody? like we're talking about jury duty. The prick decides to get smashed in the middle of the damn season and drive around, as if three millionaires can't afford a taxi. it could happen to anybody who's mildly retarded. Sometimes, LT, it's better to just shut up.

I never thought of this until you just said it. When was the last time you heard of any professional athletes missing games or practices because they got jury duty?

What doesn't kill them should make them stronger! wink.gif

I think that could really be the outcome here. The Jets already had a target on their backs, and this sort of thing just creates more outside turmoil - where the best place to be becomes the practice field with the press locked out. Guys like Sanchez and LT coming to Braylon's defense can only be a good thing for the team. It strengthens the whole Us vs. The World mentality.

This is the first thing I thought of when I first heard Josh McDaniels' presser earlier.

How many beers is twice the legal limit exactly? Is it 4? 8? I don't really know, but everyone's driven after drinking at least 4 right? I don't drink most of the time but it's not a problem.

The only reason he was stopped was because of the "tinted" windows excuse, which is probably BS. More than likely he got racially profiled. It's a car full of young black men early in the morning.

Yeah, or he got pulled over because his windows were illegally and conspicuously tinted up front just like they said and just like his windows probably are.

Yes, but with my theory we had the chance of seeing GOB go nuts in this thread. Now you ruined that you know.
