Omon, Rinehart Added to Practice Squad

Posted by Randy Lange on September 29, 2010 – 1:07 pm

Early notes today: The Jets have signed two players, both 2008 draft picks, to their practice squad: RB Xavier Omon and G Chad Rinehart.

One might think Omon has come in because he’s a former Bill and the Jets play at Buffalo on Sunday, but Omon ceased being a Bill when he was waived last November. He signed on with Seattle’s practice squad after that, then was released by the Seahawks in April and wasn’t picked up.

Omon (5’11″, 226), who fills the spot vacated when Chauncey Washington was signed to the Rams’ active roster, was the Bills’ sixth-round pick (179th overall) out of Northwest Missouri State in ’08, played a lot in the ’08 and ’09 preseasons but sparingly in both regular seasons.

Rinehart (6’5″, 307), a third-round pick (96th overall) by Washington out of Northern Iowa in ’08, was a final cut by the Redskins early this month. He started four games for the ‘Skins last season. He fills the other P-squad opening after WR Patrick Turner was activated for the Miami game.
