Under New Ownership, Are Dolphins Looking to Implode Already?

By Bassett on Sep 29, 2010, 1:39 pm

This might be the best news I’ve heard in a while.

According to friends in contact with Parcells … Parcells said he fears that if he leaves, owner Stephen Ross will hire another top football executive (potentially Carl Peterson) who eventually would hire his own people to replace Ireland and Tony Sparano. Parcells told friends that Ireland and Sparano deserve a chance to build their relationship with Ross and establish more credibility with him, and Parcells believes staying makes that more likely.

Interesting. Well I'm not going to put much stock into rumors but I'd rather have Peterson and Edwards running that franchise than Sparano/Ireland.

Me either, but FWIW:

Dolphins owner Steve Ross wouldn't have hired Parcells. You can take that to the bank. Their business models are too far apart. Their ideals on how to run a football franchise don't overlap right from this most fundamental idea: Ross sees great value in the being in the public eye, and Parcells sees great value staying out of it.

This difference of philosophies at the top show what has become a great divide in how the Dolphins are run. The Dolphins North, the football side in Davie, barely talk with Dolphins South, the business side at the stadium.

Life can go on fine in most cases. But not always, and not forever, as Ross didn't spend $1.1 billion to have a non-relationship with his most important people. That's why it's important for Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano to strike some kind of relationship with Dolphins South -- and, more importantly, to win this year.

Sometimes the interplay causes issues, too. The football side at Dolphins North wanted to keep 1 p.m. games this year. The heat provides another edge against opponents. But Dolphins South knows fans don't want to buy tickets in the upper deck in that heat -- it's been a problem inside the team for years. So Ross decided against early-season 1 o'clock games.

If this team struggles this year, Ross probably won't hesitate to bring in his own people who are more in line with his idea on how to run a franchise.

And:

Bill Parcells has assured NFL associates that he is not retiring and will remain involved with the team, but he gave up final say because, at 69, he's getting older and believes Jeff Ireland is ready to be in control. But Parcells -- who will be paid through 2011 whether he works or not -- also shared one big motive for why he's remaining a consultant.

According to friends in contact with Parcells since a dead-on report by ProFootballTalk.com last week, Parcells said he fears that if he leaves, owner Stephen Ross will hire another top football executive (potentially Carl Peterson) who eventually would hire his own people to replace Ireland and Tony Sparano. Parcells told friends that Ireland and Sparano deserve a chance to build their relationship with Ross and establish more credibility with him, and Parcells believes staying makes that more likely.

But even if Parcells left, Dolphins people say Ross wouldn't have hired a new czar now and he wants to see how the team does this season. But Parcells' presence for another year or so would help Ireland/Sparano next offseason if the team struggles in 2010.

In 2009, Parcells complained to friends about Ross' envelope-pushing on the entertainment side, but that did not factor into his decision.

Nothing substantial, though if Sparano is really coaching for his job, I'd say it's (-150) that Pennington starts 2+ games this season.

If Herm becomes the new HC for the Fins, that means they'll be scrapping the 3-4 or the Tamp 2 4-3 and some 3-4 players will become available.

The trolls will be blowing Herm, claiming he's now their great new saviour.

Like they did with Penny, Beck, Green, Saban, Wannstedt, etc. etc. etc.

Ok, I buy into that more. At least it's coming from local sources and not some Bleacher Report crap. If that is truly the case then I think the next 4 games are GIGANTIC for them. If they drop all 4 I think you see Pennington sooner than later. I do belive they'll split those two. I think NE/Cincy are winnable games for them.

Seriously, I think Herm will look really good in Orange and Aqua.

Plus, they are a terrible classless organization with a bunch of thugs and criminals. Herm's family value's passed on from Tony Dungy will serve them well. He's just going to have to learn how have a cuban pig roast instead of BBQ's at practice.

That is funny.

As long as Parcells is out of the picture, the "Is your mother a whore" guy and Super Mario don't frighten me in the least.

If Ireland and Sparano stay in charge without Parcells I hope they scapegoat Dan Henning when they miss the playoffs.

If this is true, and the dolphins have a good year I think Sparano will be nabbed quickly perhaps by the cowboys if they stink it up and fire Wade.

I could even see him going to the giants, if they fire coughlin and wanna bring in sparano coming from that parcells coaching tree. As much as i despise the fins, i would feel bad for sparano as a person if this is true, that would suck, bringing an organization out of 1-15 only to have them screw you out of your job. But how could you expect any less from an organization that allows fergie, marc anthony, and jennifer lopez to become part owners.

And i hope they dont hire herm, I like herm and I dont wanna be obliged to hate on him lol.
