Been stationed in Korea for almost a year so I only have a sh*tty little cell phone at the moment and today I lost my $400 iTouch and was thinking maybe an iPhone.

It's been a while since I've had anything more than a very basic cell.

What do you guys use/recommend?

Buy the Boulder like Crusher. It's water proof and shock proof. Doesn;t have all the silly apps, but you can order a pizza from the shower and save a step.

I actually still have the original. That is the new one in the pic I posted. I used kill 4 cell phones a year. Break them get them what whatever. This phone is the best phone I ever owned. I've jumped into the pool with it in my pocket and just put it out in the sun and it's perfect.

i dropped mine int he toilet when i was doing some plumbing work. It was fine. They siad it will be good as long as you have all the ports closed.

You can't go wrong with the iPhone, although I prefer Android. What carrier are you going to be using?

I don't know yet. I go back to England in Dec for another three year stint. I just had a cheap "pay as you go" phone last time I was there because I knew I wouldn't be using it nearly as much as my cell in the US. I think virgin mobile is their biggest carrier but I'm not 100% sure. Orange is pretty big over there too.

I don't know the English phone scene very well, sorry. I think they got the Desire Z and some other HTC goodies...I'd go with them if you're willing to front a data plan. Free GPS though...I think that's in England too?

Blackberries are nice but not worth it.

I canot wait unti my contract expires to get something else.

I wouldn't recommend a Blackberry unless BBM is a must. Their software is like 2-3 years behind the competition, and every OS revision has destroyed backwards compatibility, which is a massive fail.

i've heard the droid's battery sucks and pretty much requires constant charge. is that true? how much usage can you get before charging?

I have the Droid X, it has the best battery life of any smartphone I've had (especially since a major software update that resolved a few issues that killed the battery unless you did some things manually that were supposed to happen automatically). I bought an extra battery, as I have with my other phones, and haven't used it. I can generally go about 24-30hrs. without a charge under normal usage (a few calls, email/texting all day, couple hours of internet, couple hours of listening to sirius our other music, take a few pics, etc.)

Plus the NFL Network is awesome, live feed and highlight videos.

I was thinking of getting that and upgrading to the Droid X with the HDMI out. Question for you though...I heard the HDMI out only works with the gallery and movie viewer (I think) natively. But there are programs that let you bypass this.

Is this true?

Ideally I want to be able to use the HDMI out to watch the Red Zone on a TV while tailgating at the stadium. Also thought of going the slingbox route to accomplish the same thing...

What do you think?

Thanks.
