maybe someone can help me on this nuance of NFL rule

im a draft lover, playoffs are a confusing and strange idea for me.

let's say hypothetically if the Jets win out 6-0 in the division,

does it matter what they do in the other games? could they miss the playoffs?

for example could NE still win the divisional title at 9-7 despite the Jets winning out the division but only going 8-8?

No, its based on overall record. In college they go by conference/division record.

Doing well in division play will help us immensely in any tiebreaker scenarios, but it becomes meaningless if we don't do well in our non-division games.

Put it this way...Going undefeated in divisional games would mean at least 6 wins for us and 4 losses for all other teams in the division (they all play each other too...So assuming everyone else splits their games). It would also guarantee us the division in any tiebreaker scenario. The AFCE is a good division... So you're not going to see a team go 6-0 in the division and 0-10 outside of the division.

IOTW, the answer to your question is technically no, it doesnt guarantee a spot in the playoffs... But it makes missing the playoffs almost impossible.

Jets 3 Rest of AFC East 0. And that's

Minus Santonio Holmes.

Minus Calvin Pace

Minus Kris Jenkins.

Minus Revis for the 2.5 games

What do the trolls have to say now!

Congrats on the chest pounding after 4 weeks of the season.

What kind of trophy do you get for that significant accomplishment?

Keep dreaming Buckwheat.

On December 6th, the Domination Station goes on the road to Fagboro.

Jets 31

Pats 10

I forgot, the Jets are the NFL's newest dynasty.

By the time that games rolls around, the Jets will be in the midst of their annual 4 out of 5 games losing streak.

Really?

NE (or Miami) can lose both games to us but still sweep the other 4. If the Jets win the last 3 divisional games, it only guarantees 2 losses - the 2 played against the Jets - for anyone else in the AFCE.

There is no rule that states if the Jets manage to sweep the division that the other 3 teams will go 1-1 against each other. That is an assumption being made here with no basis.

The Jets could sweep the division and technically the Patriots could still finish the season 14-2 while the Jets finish 6-10.

It is mathematically possible to sweep the division and still finish in last place in the division.

Sweeping the division only guarantees the Jets 3 things:

1. 6 wins on the season

2. no worse than a 6-6 record in the AFC

3. best divisional record in the AFCE

Envious? Of a subpar team. You guys cannot win on the road.

And exactly when was the last time the Jets won anything of significance?

They haven't won an outright AFCE title since 1998, have NEVER won an AFC Championship game and haven't played in a Super Bowl since man walked on the moon.

Again, congrats on the Jets total domination 4 weeks into the regular season.
