Dolphins special teams coach loses his job

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 5, 2010 11:47 AM ET

Monday night's special teams meltdown in Miami cost special teams coach John Bonamego his job.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano announced the team has "moved on" from Bonamego as of Tuesday morning. Assistant Special Teams coach Darren Rizzi, who had no prior NFL experience before joining Miami in 2009, will take over.

Bonamego was the team's special teams coordinator since 2008. Monday night's game wasn't the first time he's taken heat.

"This was a tough decision," Sparano said. "I thank Bono for all he's done. Players need to take responsibility too."

is he really a scapegoat? 3 blocked kicks in 2 weeks and a 2 big returns for the oppenents in consecutive weeks. He was hot garbage

Now, that's funny. You and your fellow fin trolls were yapping up a storm on here after the first two games on how you won two road games and are on top of the AFC East. How come there was no mention of the special teams coach then?

Your team has way more problems then a special teams coach...good luck with Henneception.

Ummm we weren't talking about the special teams coach because he wasn't getting punts and fg's blocked. Special teams for the Dolphins is basically don't need any big plays please just dont **** up, it's awful, and i was actually satisfied with the just dont **** up motto.

You would have lost the 2nd Jets' game last year if the team really had that attitude ;)
