Holmes, Revis, Pace all practice

October, 6, 2010

By Rich Cimini

It was the feel-good practice of the year on Wednesday for the New York Jets.

Reinstated WR Santonio Holmes, activated to the active roster after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, participated in his first regular-season practice. Holmes is slated to make his Jets debut Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

CB Darrelle Revis, out the last two weeks with a strained hamstring, also practiced and appears likely to return to the lineup. The timing couldn't be better, with the Vikings reportedly having traded for Revis' top rival, wide receiver Randy Moss.

LB Calvin Pace, who missed the first four games because of a broken foot, also practiced. He, too, is likely to face the Vikings.

Holmes was a few minutes late to practice for an undisclosed reason. He arrived during the team stretch, not wearing his uniform. He quickly changed into his practice jersey and shoulder pads on the field.

Except for DT Kris Jenkins, out for the season after knee surgery, the Jets have all their key players for the first time.

DE Shaun Ellis (sprained knee) didn't practice, but his injury isn't serious.

How great is it that our team just went on a 3 game win streak through our deivision without our best passing LB, our dominant DT, our best CB and our most dynamic WR.

It's a true testament to how good this staff is. I am grateful to finally have competence in our regime.

Getting these guys back (outside of Jenks) should be a real boost. I'm friggin PUMPED JIMMY!!!!!

Just throwing this out there.

Last year Jets were 3-1 and finally got Pace back AND added Braylon - only to have it come crashing down during a mid season slump.

Just throwing this out there.

This ain't last year.

I think part of the reason Jet fans are feeling so optimistic is that the traditional powers in the NFL are all looking very average this year. Except for Pittsburgh.

We shook up our roster to beat Peyton Manning and the Colts but it looks like we should have been worried about the Steelers all along.

True. Pitt scares me most.. but, in a way preparing for Peyton prepared us for everyone else. Not to mention we stole Holmes from the Steelers. I haven't seen any of their games this year but I feel with Polamalu in the lineup they are the #1 D and would have been last year too.

nor should we-this team is stacked from 1-53

Jets were actually stacked from 1-56, but that damn McKnight cost us three good players. :bag:

Just throwing this out there.

Last year Jets were 3-1 and finally got Pace back AND added Braylon - only to have it come crashing down during a mid season slump.

For Braylon, they traded away Stuckey, who our rookie QB had spent the entire year with up until that point AND Cotchery was hurt. I don't expect problems on offense this year with Holmes back. Sanchez got to work with him over the summer, and he's been with the team during his suspension - just not able to participate in practice. He should only be a plus.

As for Pace, I hope the Jets learned something from last year. I think they expected to be better as soon as Pace got back, leaned on him too much, and it bit them in the a$ early. They should work both guys into the lineup, and not put too much pressure on either one of them (cue the Mevi$ contingent in 3... 2... 1... ). Neither of these guys is likely to be a savior in their first game back against a good Vikings' offense that just got better. I like the idea of limiting Pace's reps, and keeping Revis on one side of the field. And really, just doing what they've been doing. The run defense has been much better than last year's. Think that has something to do with the offense putting up points, too - which should be less of a problem with Holmes.

It's all good. cool.gif

well then think for a minute and try and throw something out there that makes an ounce of sense.

I thought about it.

Just throwing this out there, Last year Jets were 3-1 and finally got Pace back AND added Braylon - only to have it come crashing down during a mid season slump.

Since all of that is still true, it absolutely makes sense.

Thats right, I forgot using last year occurrences was completely out of the question in sports.

Still, using last year's occurrences have no bearing on this year.

Do they make Sanchez a rookie again, how about Rex?

Do they make the stretch run and playoff experience disappear or something?

Will they erase the fact that Holmes was in camp and has been with the team for months now?

Are we getting Braylon and losing Stuckey again or are we adding Holmes to Braylon?

When will we lose Leon Washington, and LT for that matter?

If it happens again, it won't be because of last year.

Past performance isn't a predictor of future performance, you know.

I wasn't saying the Jets are bound to collapse. Simply reminding everyone how happy this place was when we landed Braylon and Pace was coming back.

"Our D is already the best in the league, it will be the best ever with Pace"

"Now that we have Braylon it will open up Cotch and the running game for the rookie"

And the next thing you know I'm crying hysterical as I sat in 3 hours of traffic following a home loss to the Dolphins.

8 TD's 0 interceptions, right! ;)

We were 3-0 and there were retarded threads about how happy people were that Sanchez wasn't learning from the sideline. Those were bumped 3 weeks later by trolls.

Its football, anything can happen.

Nobody is disputing any of this, but still if it happens again it will have nothing to do with last year!

Last year's occurrences are not going to help us.
