....Our WR corps looked like this:

1) Jerricho Cotchery

2) Chansi Stuckey

3) David Clowney

4) Brad Smith

5) Wallace Wright

Today, October 6, 2010, a little over 1 year later, our WR corps looks like this:

1) Braylon Edwards

2) Santonio Holmes

3) Jerricho Cotchery

4) Brad Smith

Not bad.

We carry as many TE's as we do WR's and 2 FB's. Thats just weird.

When you consider what the folks above said (Keller is really a WR), it changes things a little:

5 WR's (Edwards, Holmes, Cotchery, Keller, Smith)

3 TE's (Hartsock, Cumberland, Mulligan)

3 RB's (LT, Greene, McKnight)

2 FB's (Richardson, Conner)

The only thing "weird", then, is that we carry 2 FB's (many teams don't even have 1). Once Richardson retires, things will return to a healthy balance.

Cotchery has been a disappointment this year. Gotta wonder if that will change when the Jets get Holmes on the field.

Looked up his contract just for fun, and according to Jason he's got a de-escalator clause if he fails to meet certain performance levels. I wonder if he's going to be in danger of that this year?

I just don't see how Cotchery's production will improve significantly when he's in the slot. He's not the shifty type that can make a ton of guys miss. I suppose he's good for over-the-middle passes to move the chains, but isn't Keller in that role at this point?

Keller is a TE, sure he's used like a WR, but he's a TE. So its weird that we carry 4 TE's and 2 FB's.

Ground & pound, baby! cool.gif

We've got Keller, a blocking TE in Hartsock, a special teamer in Mulligan, and Keller's receiving backup/developmental project in Cumberland. Three TE's wouldn't be that out of the ordinary, we have four. Most teams carry five WR's, we're only carrying four and one of them is Brad Smith - who's really a RB. So having Keller as your #1 receiver and a backup for him in lieu of a fourth or fifth WR isn't completely absurd.

TRich is the last of the beloved veteran leadership. Nice to have him around. He won't be here next year.
