  1. 1. What's your decision?

    • Decline the penalty, 1st & 10 for opponent on their own 3

    • Accept the penalty, go for it on 4th & 1 at the opponent's 45

....you're at midfield and are lining up to punt. Its early in the 3rd quarter, you're down 17-3, and while you have a good running game, you are plagued by your young QB's growing pains. Your opponent isn't having a particularly great offensive day either, but nonetheless lead by two TD's. Your punter gets off a good one and it is downed at the 3. However, a player on the opposing team lined up offsides.

You now have a decision to make. Do you decline the penalty and give up possession, giving your opponent a 1st & 10 at their 3? Or, do you accept the penalty, and go for it on 4th & 1 at the opponent's 45?

A team had a similar decision to make today but I won't reveal which just yet.

I think in this scenario, I would decline the penalty and give up possession to my opponent at the 3. They are having a tough offensive game, if we can stop them then we can back them up. A failure on 4th and 1 may all but seal their victory (3rd quarter, 2 score lead with the ball close to scoring position).

down by two touches, I'd hope we'd take the chance to get into scoring position.

Was at the game. You have to take the penalty there (thought they had him pinned at the 8 and not the 3. Always a chance that you draw another illegal formation or an offsides just by lining unto run a play or punt it again. I don't care who you are kicking too and how they were playing all game.

I was at the game too and was surprised at the decision.

The Panthers are terrible, and will be in a dog fight with the Bills for the #1 pick in the draft.

Living in NC, I get all the Panthers games, and based on my exposure I'd say that John Fox is probably one of the 3 worst head coaches in the NFL. How you play it that conservatively when your team is 0-4 is mind boggling.

Good question, downed at the 8 i definitelty accept and got for it. At the 3 or 2 or 1, i may decline and figure I stand a good chance of getting it right back where i am, ormaking something happen on defense.
