THE ILK
Is that why he says this: Favre says he might miss games Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said Wednesday he would consider sitting out at some point this season if his sore right elbow worsens. Favre has started an NFL record 289 consecutive games at quarterback, 313 including the playoffs. But the 41-year-old is suffering from tendinitis in his elbow, and was in noticeable pain during the second half of Monday's loss to the Jets. Favre, with his elbow wrapped during his weekly news conference, admitted his accuracy was impacted by the elbow pain, though he still threw three touchdowns, giving him 502 for his career. "You're not going to make every throw but I would have made some of those throws," Favre said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "From that standpoint, I don't want to play just to play." With the Jets in 2008, Favre was hampered late in the season by a biceps injury that turned out to be a torn tendon. He later admitted the team would have been better off if he had sat out a few games. "If you had told me tendinitis would keep me out I would have laughed at you because I always looked at it as, 'That's kind of a wimpy injury.' It was painful," Favre told the newspaper. "Very painful and for people who have had it lifting things is a problem. So throwing 50-yard bombs is even tougher. We've been treating it, it's been there for several weeks. It hasn't gotten any worse but it really hasn't gotten better." Favre said the injury will only improve with rest, but also pointed out that going to the bench would cost him valuable reps as the team tries to regain last year's offensive rhythm. Favre entered this season concerned about his surgically repaired left ankle, which almost forced him to announce his retirement in August. He has not practiced this week due to the ankle and elbow issues. The Vikings, who have struggled to a 1-3 start, host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. THE ILK
And this: World of hurt, Brett Favre's pain extends beyond the gridiron, says FOX Sports North Posted: October 13, 2010, 4:30 p.m. CT By Bo Mitchell FOXSportsNorth.com When Brett Favre conducted his regularly-scheduled weekly press conference shortly before noon on Wednesday, the assembled media knew full well he wasn’t going to directly answer any questions regarding the NFL’s investigation into his alleged inappropriate texting and alleged voicemails to a Jets employee. No "sexting" questions. No massage therapist questions. He’s been sidestepping and stiff-arming the controversial queries for about a week now. So when the topic was inevitably broached on Wednesday (someone had to ask) toward the end of the presser, the wily veteran looked at the dozen or so cameras capturing his every word and deftly elbowed the question aside once again … elbowed being the key word. You see, from the moment Favre stepped to the podium inside the Winter Park field house, it was all about his injured elbow. As he approached the microphones, he took a sip of bottled water with his right (throwing) hand, clearly revealing what appeared to be a hastily, if not clumsily, bandaged elbow – perhaps a not-so-subtle message that the elbow (not the investigation) would be the preferred topic du jour. He may as well have just held up a sign that said, "Ask me about my elbow!" After all, Favre had a lot to say about the ailment – which, despite the discomfort, was a much more comfortable topic for him to filibuster about than that stuff that allegedly happened when he was a Jet. In fact, Favre added a new level of intrigue to the never-ending drama by admitting that he would be willing to think about sitting out (and thus end his record games played streak) if the elbow got bad enough. "Sure, I think any player would have to consider that," Favre admitted. "Going through that type of situation where I can, but will rest help? Yeah, it would be a consideration." Saying he doesn’t like dealing in hypothetical situations, head coach Brad Childress did some stiff-arming and elbowing of his own when posed with questions regarding the possibility of having Favre sit out if the injury didn’t improve. However, Childress did admit to being concerned about his quarterback’s health and his emotional state given his off-field issues. "I’m worried about both, but I’m worried about a lot of guys’ emotional state," Childress said. Given the opportunity to clarify what he meant, Childress chose his words carefully: "I’m concerned about everybody on our football team. I’m not overly concerned about where he’s at with whatever he’s got going on in his life. I don’t mean to minimize it. It is what it is. But I see a guy that’s here, ready, and prepared and doing the work. I don’t see ill effects from that." Describing the pain as "pulsating," Favre said the elbow has been nagging him for several weeks now and while it hasn’t gotten any worse, it also hadn’t gotten any better. He then recounted how tendinitis sidelined him for all of training camp one summer. "Prior to that, if you had told me that tendinitis would keep me out I would have laughed at you because I always looked at it as kind of a wimpy injury," Favre said. "It was painful, very painful. And for people who have had it, lifting things is a problem, so throwing 50-yard bombs is even tougher." Indeed, the elbow is no laughing matter. Not for a quarterback with a new, field-stretching receiver to whom he is expected to throw pinpoint "50-yard bombs." As a result, Favre will be on a "pitch count" in practice this week, as he often was last year. Only last year his limited reps were aimed at keeping him fresh; now they will be geared toward guarding against aggravating the elbow injury. "I’m being as cautious as I can," Favre said. "It’s kind of a funny type of injury. I mean it could flare up and get worse. I don’t know if it’s necessarily just going to go away – that’s the thing that I’ve learned about it. The most important thing with it is rest. I could sit out all week and play Sunday, but I need the reps." Favre didn’t do any throwing in practice Wednesday. His work was limited to some handoffs. The plan, according to Favre, calls for him to offset the lack of reps in workouts this week with extra meeting time and film study as they prepare to face the Cowboys on Sunday at Mall of America Field in a matchup of two desperate, 1-3 teams. Ideally, the pain would remain tolerable enough for Favre to continue playing through it and wouldn’t significantly alter his mechanics. However, he admitted that his accuracy was affected on Monday night against the Jets, noting that some balls were sailing on him. "I made some good throws, but missed on some that I don’t miss on. That’s what I don’t want to happen. You’re not going to make every throw, but I would have made some of those throws. From that standpoint, I don’t want to play just to play." In other words, the definition of Favre Watch has been altered once again. Two months ago "Favre Watch" meant "will he or won’t he play?" Last week it became "will he or won’t he be suspended or fined by the league after the investigation is complete?" The new Favre Watch centers on whether this elbow tendinitis will be the injury that ultimately ends his record streak. There’s never any down time for Favre Watch. Oh no? KSJets
This guy is unbelievable. His elbow didn't seem to affect him after throwing those TDs and fist-pumping his way down the sideline. Miraculously, his elbow only seemed to hurt him after an incompletion or INT. If he plays and does well, he'll be the hero, but if he plays bad, he's already got his excuse lined up. You guys talk about Revis and his hamstring, but Favre invented the preemptive injury excuse.

You guys talk about Revis and his hamstring, but Favre invented the preemptive injury excuse. Actually, Favre was holding his elbow quite a bit late in the game. Very noticeable. That said, this 'injury' may be real, but it's also a product of record. If they lose next week, I'd be willing to bet Favre packs it in as 1-4 pretty much means done and all he wants is to win a championship... once that's over, what does he care anymore? KSJets
Actually, Favre was holding his elbow quite a bit late in the game. Very noticeable. Yes, after every incompletion. Didn't see him wincing in pain after throwing those late TD passes as he was sprinting down the field pumping his fist like there was nothing wrong.
