flgreen
The Jets Stream by Manish MehtaOctober 14, 2010 4:34 PM 4 Comments .Darrelle Revis will travel to Denver with Jets on Friday; playing status unknown » By Manish Mehta Darrelle Revis will travel to Denver on Friday with the rest of the team even though it’s uncertain whether he’ll play against the Broncos. The All-Pro cornerback practiced on a limited basis Thursday and took “a lot of reps” with the first-team defense, Rex Ryan said. “He wants to be with this team whether he can play or not,” Ryan said after practice. “And that’s where I want him also. We will definitely take him to Denver with us. Hopefully, he’ll be ready to play. He looked today. It’s too early to say that he’s definitely going to play. I’m not comfortable with that yet.” Ryan admitted that he told defensive coaches to prepare like Revis wouldn’t play. He also said it’s possible that the most important piece of his defense “absolutely” could be used on a limited basis. The Broncos’ pass-happy offense will make it impossible for Revis to only play in particular sub packages. “The (Broncos) are going to be in three wides, four wides, whatever they want,” Ryan said. “Maybe we’ll just say (to Revis), ‘Hey, go out there on third down.' We’ll look at all possibilities.” ** Calvin Pace also practiced Thursday on a limited basis with his sore foot. Ryan said he “did really well” and should be ready to play Sunday. ** Ryan on Nick Folk, who earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his five-field goal performance on Monday night: “I’m not going to say Nick Folk is doing a great job kicking like a Pro Bowl kicker… because his contract is up (at the end of the year).” ** A day after Mark Sanchez admitted that he texts his wide receivers at all hours of the day, Ryan admitted that the second-year quarterback also sends him texts on a regular basis. “It’ll be a cartoon of me and the guy is like 500 pounds and he’ll send it,” Ryan said. “He’ll do random things like that all the time… More goofy stuff generally when he sends it to me. Every now and then he’s serious, but very rarely.” ** Rex hasn’t spoken to Kris Jenkins since he underwent knee surgery recently, but the coach was pleased that the veteran nose tackle will attempt a comeback from his second straight season-ending knee injury. “That’s great because there’s only way to do it and that’s to be completely committed,” Ryan said. “You’ve got to be 100 percent committed. If he is, he’s got a chance to come back. If he’s not, if he wavers, that’s going to be tough.” ** Ryan on Broncos defensive coordinator Don Martindale: “We worked together and we called him Wink. He almost looks like a Ryan too. He’s got this big square head. He’s got a five head, not a forehead. But anyway, big head.” For more Jets news, follow Manish Mehta on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TheJetsStream Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2010/10/darrelle-revis-will-travel-to.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nydnrss%2Fblogs%2Fjets+%28Blogs%2FThe+Jet+Stream%29#ixzz12N7Qv4Xy
BroadwayJoe12
I will never get tired of reading any of Ryan's pressers, he's just absolutely hilarious and genuine. The thing about Folk being a pro-bowl kicker was priceless...as was the little quip about Denver's DC having a fivehead. The guy is just great, to go on top of being a very promising head coach. Mevis Slouch
Its shocking that Revis hasnt made all the trips. Its just a hammy tweak. Thats not something that typically keeps a player from traveling with the team. But all he is doing is making it seem like he cares.
Bergen Jet
He used the same line about David Harris that he used about Folk earlier this year. Ryan is the most entertaining character on a team full of talent and characters.
RutgersJetFan
That quote on Martindale belongs in a yearbook or something. Infinitely funnier in print too.
AFJF
LOL..nice shot at Revis. Gotta love Rex. Every time a player is definitely going to be scratched from a road game because of an injury, that player will stay at home and continue their treatments at the team's facility. BroadwayJoe12
Thats not true, I've been there, you havent. While not making it past training camp, technically neither have you And maybe he hasn't, and while I haven't been there on the players end like you, the last two years that i've been in grad school i've been shadowing the orthopedic surgeon for the eagles. The vast majority of players stay home for treatment instead of flying to away games.

The vast majority of players stay home for treatment instead of flying to away games. I was more talking about my time in college. If the injury wasnt serious, like a hammy, that player would travel with the team because the treatment isnt intense. Man congrats!!! That sounds like an awesome gig. However, clearly since you are following an orthopedic surgeon, the injuries you are seeing are much more severe than a hammy tweak, so thats why your experience has seen players staying at home. If a teammate didnt travel with our team because of a tweaked hammy, the perception is that player didnt care or isnt invested.

So now since he IS traveling with the team you're gonna swing this as he's "Pretending" to care hahaha Can't win.

The Jets are paying Revis a lot more money than Josh Luchs was paying your teammate. And therein lies the difference.
