Slauson Getting Better Each Week

Good to see Matt have a good game against the Vikes. He was downright nasty on those traps we ran. I think by the end of the year he may be our true starting LG,and might keep Ducasse on the bench even next year. Although, I think Vlad will be the successor for Woody at RT anyway in a couple years.

Slauson looked good against the Vikes, but I wouldn't pencil in Ducasse anywhere just yet. Slauson is a 6th round pick that seems to be a steal. Ducasse may be a bust. He hasn't shown much. We knew he'd be raw. Let's see how he develops before we start annointing him to take over Woody's spot. I'd love Vlad to be able to handle it, but if he couldn't handle LG, tackle is probably a bit much right now.

Vlad has more physical tools than most of our line. Now he needs to get his head right. Slausson has improved(could he have gotten worse?) and we need that to compete right now. I always liked Slausson's mean streak but he cannot let that be used against him with leverage and over extension. Your offensive line is only as good as its weakest link and we saw what one hole in the oline can do to a team a few years ago...

so when Slauson whiffed on Jimmy kennedy and sanchez got crushed... did any1 else see that?

sorry but after ur relentless gholston loving i have to take your talent evaluation with a huge grain of salt. have you even admitted that there's just a "possibility" that gholston might be a bust yet?

Actually, he played RT in college so he is more accustomed to the position plus its a more natural fit for his skillset.

Slauson emerging as the longterm answer at LG is actually perfect for the Jets. It enables them to develop Ducasse at his own pace and hopefully be able to seamlessly replace Woody in a year or two.

Slauson's been solid for several weeks now. Guy plays with a real nasty attitude and seems to really be getting everything. He's becoming a better run blocker by the week and is much less of a liability in pass protection than Faneca was last year.

BTW, Faneca has been getting Cardinals QBs killed every week. He's almost useless now as a pass blocker.

yup, exactly.

This and the FACT he was a ClubHouse Lawyer (along with Feeley) spouting " 'mgt is screwing you reference contracts" rhetoric to players due up.

untrue. He played LG and LT in college. The first time he's played on the right side of an offensive line, in a game on any level, was in garbage time against the Bills.

I stand corrected. He never played guard in college though bit. He was on the bench as a freshman and became starting LT in the second game of his sophomore season, starting every game there until he left.

He still defends DRob, our awesome bowling ball with butcher knives, and bad knees

So I doubt he'll stop defending Gholston anytime soon.

bit, that was the first time Sanchez had been sacked in three weeks.

the Jets are 29th in the league in pass attempts per game.

for the record I'll be happy with Slauson when he stops getting the QB smushed.

that's not related to Faneca, Gholston, Drob or Herman Edwards.

It's a direct result of Slauson gifting sacks to guys who get 1 or 2 a year max. When those breakdowns stop happening I'll come back and mea culpa on Slauson. the leak hasn't stopped.

He hasn't though bit. The Jets have allowed a total of 10 QB hits in five games, fewest in the league. Sanchez has only been sacked 7 times, which is tied for third fewest.

The Arizona Cardinals, on the other had, have allowed a whopping 32 QB hits, 4th most in the league and 19 sacks which is tied for the second most.

Right now: Slauson >>>>>>>>>>>> Faneca.

Being that I played offensive line my entire life and almost made the Cowboys at RG. I think I'm the expert on this.

Slauson has been outstanding thus far. What you are failing to realize is that teams know he's still got some adjusting to do in terms of picking up the pass rush. They tend to bring an extra guy to his side each passing down and a couple of times he's picked the wrong guy to block. I've seen him go outside and not inside on 2 occasions. Not overly bad though considering some of the lines he faced already, Balt, Miami, NE, Minn. Very stout lineman who routinely abuse even veteran guards. I'd hate to see how bad protection would be with that washed up dude Faneca they let go in the offseason.

If you watch closely, Slauson has the makings of an elite player. He's got outstanding footwork and brute strength. The combo is perfect for the NY Jets system and the style of block Callahan deploys.

I'm new to the board, so I dont know if you have some type of personal vendetta against Slauson but to not see the potential he's shown and how well he's performing either means you dont know what you are watching or you chose to ignore the truth. And the truth is Slauson is no slouch and is playing at a high level.

You wanted to keep faneca!

Have you seen what he's been doing? :rl:

actually yes.

Faneca has given up 2 sacks this year. (He's never given up a sack in 14 playoff games)

http://hosted.stats.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=4288&team=22

Slauson has given up 2.5 sacks this year.

but hey ya know... don't let facts get in the way.

So let me get this straight, you feel vindicated that a 1st time starter whose getting better every week, gave up .5 more sacks than an aging veteran whose getting worse?

:rl: You just can't make this sh*t up!

Hey bit, who gave up more pressures, more hits? :bwahaharoll:

Welcome to the board. I look forward to discussing the OL with knowledgable posters.

Hey brooklyn who throws the ball more? bahahahaha isn't that annoying.

I'd prefer it if the number of sacks was 0. Or if he had 1 or 2 but they've stopped. that would be great progress.

let me know when that happens. Until then actually faneca yes gave up a half sack less than Slauson.

Thanks. I see that you are a big fan of Faneca. He was great once. Not so much anymore. He really doesnt do anything well anymore. Cant run block, never been a great in pass protection.

The Jets made a good decision letting him go. Slauson is going to be a good player in this league for a long time.

Hey bit, who did they play and who did we play?

How many sacks would that sieve have given up here?

Pressures are more vital bit, a QB could throw away the ball to avoid a sack.

I hear they do that allot in AZ, so who gives up more pressures?

How's our running game doing? :rl:

No. Until then, Faneca is credited for half a sack less than Slauson. It's actually a sack and a half because some idiot charter put one of Slauson's on Ferguson. Not that it means anything. I don't see the great talent that your new lupine friend does, but Slauson has been fine and has improved after a bad first couple of games.

Still unproven. We havent yet seen Slauson line up and handle an elite speed rushing DT like Tommie Harris, Dewayne Robertson etc etc

You forget he has the horrific task of lining up vs Gholstin in practice sometimes. No wonder he is improving.
