HessStation
So I open up my interweb just now and what do I see on the front page? Brett Favre the goldenboy has done it again. The wiley vet has again escaped his off field controveries, why? Because he's Teh ******* Brett Favre. NOOOO you idiots this has NOTHING to do with the media covering up the Wonderboy's not so wonder of a piece , it has EVERYTHING to do with the way Favre was able to fox his way through the scandal with the ultimate competitor's charm of, ah, "no comment" (dumb hick voice-over icon added). Hey, why am I even bothering right now, don't listen to me, listen to another big time jounalist breaking it all down. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/brett-favre-shows-us-how-to-be-a-player-with-scandal-response-101810 Whitlock: That's how you handle a scandal No apologies. No rehab. No excuses. Just go out and score a season-saving win. Brett Favre is showing he's a master in dealing with the unwanted spotlight, Jason Whitlock says. "Brett Favre began the day surrounded, a runaway outlaw cornered by an angry posse" and "A good day for Favre? One of his all-time best." And there of course is a pic of the Happy go lucky gunslinger we all love and worship. SO WHERE IS THE HYPOCRISY HESS????? Well, my peripheral vision leads my eyes to the right of the same page where again, low and behold another pic. But this one being a mugshot of the "ultra scumbag" Braylon Edwards who should probably still be suspended for what nobody else has ever been suspended for. Oh and who also caught yet another TD this Sunday...who was caught driving drunk weeeeks prior to the Favre ordeal. The same guy who at least acknowledged and apologized for his mistakes. http://specials.msn.com/A-List/sports/Athletes-mug-shots.aspx?cp-documentid=25963034&imageindex=1 So what did we learn hear? In the words of Jason Whitlock himself, No apologies. No rehab. No excuses. That's how you handle a scandal. Sweeeet and God Bless America!!! http://dell.msn.com/?pc=MDDR
BroadwayJoe12
I think part would be due to the fact most people view what Braylon did far worse than what Favre allegedly did...even though most people have in some way been a culprit of both. You get the feeling that most any guy who's seen a picture of Sterger has said to himself, damn, i would have done it too etc. And there's something to be said about shutting up, not admitting or denying anything and just saying if you want to talk about football, I'll talk about football. His sleazy indiscretions aside, I like how he handled it and went about his business.
T0mShane
All good points except what Favre did, while slimy, wasn't a criminal act. Guys like Lupica and Whitlock would love to blow up Favre's pee-pee situation into a felony but it's not. It's a dude flirting with a de-facto stripper. Now, if Favre got a DUI or shot somebody and he skated, then you have a story. But, as is, there is no story outside of some TMZ-style trash. Why did I think it was? Braylon didnt get a felony did he? Isnt a first time offense a misdemeanor? And its not like Brett is an angel, he's openly admitted to being addicted to pills. And I dont know if its right or not, but in my company, a 1st time offense drunk driving charge, you dont lose your job. But taking pictures of your junk and sending to a coworker would be immediate termination.

And most are missing the fact that he cheated on his wife, or was trying to. Do I personally care, no but what's the difference between Favre and Tiger Woods? It just screamed foul, that something is off in the world, looking at a big picture of Favre 'the hero' smiling after a win and a mug shot of Braylon Edwards right next to him, after a win. And this rant I'm on, it really has nothing to do with the Jets per se, fyi. Just the hypocrisy of the media and how they really can shape public opinion to their whim. It seemed at the time he was addicted to the pain killers, at the beginning of his career, the NFL was searching for a new golden boy to idolize. It'd be like Manning or Brady getting caught for being hooked on them; they would just label them as a warrior who wanted to get clean and complied with the NFL substance abuse program etc. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1008161/index.htm Understood. Part of me wonders if Braylon had been in the league for 15+ years and had the type of fairly clean off the field career as Brett, would this have gotten the same attention?? It's the NFL, when you become a legend, you have to almost kill a guy to be painted negatively in their eyes.

Um, hate to break it to you dude, but randomly showing your Woody Johnson to a lady, no matter how whorish, is most certainly a criminal act. Ever heard of a little thing known as "indecent exposure"? Why exactly do you think there's discussions of whether this will go to court and/or there be a settlement? That's not to say this stuff isn't all blown completely out of proportion and has nothing to do with football at all (although in this case, considering the lady in question was employed by an NFL team, it could be a sexual harassment issue).
