I would definitely take him but wouldn't trade for him unless they want almost nothing. Particularly with Jenkins's status for a full season next year in limbo (to say the least) and Ellis not under contract either. Makes $7M next year and I don't think there will be many takers at that salary. Cleveland will cut him if they can't find a trade partner. On the open market, a 32 year-old Shaun Rogers - he turns 32 in March - won't cost anywhere near $7M in pure 2011-season salary followed by 3 more seasons at $5.5M, even if $0 of it is guaranteed. Wouldn't cost us a pick that way also. Of course, we wouldn't have him for this season either. Since we'd want the option of dumping him after this season, it depends on what Cleveland is asking.

Hey, if they want only a 6th, figuring that's better than the absolute nothing they'll get once the season is over, then 10+ games of Rogers is worth a 6th rounder. 5th is a tougher call but it probably will be a pretty late 5th. With us at 5-1 heading into the bye and no Jenkins and no real backup NT, it would be a shame for the season to go down the tubes with an injury to any of our starting DL'men. Still, if they want a 4th round and higher I'd say no. Cleveland may want players more than a low draft pick though.

Seeing how the Broncos ran on us and just the fact that size kills on a DL...I'm down for a Rodgers trade...I'd prefer Haynesworth, but we've got the Mangini connection in Cleveland.

The Broncos ran on us because the Jets were giving up the middle short to take away the pass and guess what? It worked. Orton completed less than 50% of his passes threw for just over 200 yards - about 130 yards less than he had been averaging.

When a team is passing as well as the Broncos were coming into yesterday, your defensive gameplan should be centered around forcing them to beat you on the ground and that is exactly what the Jets did.

True true...I'm still greedy and I want a giant DLman. Possibly I'll have to wait until next year, but I really want to see this Rex Ryan D with a legit XXL DLman.

Haynesworth was inactive yesterday I think it was because of the death of his brother. Im against giving up 1-3rd pick for either.

i wouldn't mind bringing in Merriman...i think we could use a PURE pass rusher

merriman sucks a$$ now. he has 4 sack sin th elast 3 years. granted one of those years he was hurt. but he has zero sacks this year. unless he comes with a truckload of steroids i don't want him.

I'd take Adalius Thomas over Merriman. Hasn't been the same since getting off the juice plus Thomas is familiar with Rex's system.

1. Stop with the "not the same since the juice" since that's been shown to be false on this board.

2. Merriman is 7 years younger and I'm sure Rex could figure out a way to get him involved in the D.

3. Merriman is the better pass rusher, which is what they'd be looking for if they signed a LB.

How has it been proven false? He hasn't been any good since 2007. He can't stay healthy and last year he only had 4 sacks in 14 starts. Pass

After he got "busted" for steroids he threw up a double digit sack season. That's why what you're saying is false.

He started sucking when he started playing on a bum knee and then when coming back from surgery. He's now two years removed from surgery, and at only 26 he's got the upside to be a big time bargain...way more than Adalius Thomas could or would offer. Thomas is the equivalent of signing Ty Law again...we don't need another formerly great vet who "knows the system."

and why is he always hurt? Steroids. They have ruined his body. The odds of him staying healthy on an already bum knee are getting smaller as the years go on.

You do realize that it's impossible to argue with someone developing their own facts, right?

How did steroids cause the knee injury? Also, he's had knee surgery so the knee is no longer a bum knee...injuries happen to athletes...especially football players.

Steroids weaken ligaments and tendons. Just how did he hurt his knee in the first place? It wasn't in a game. No one ever said, it just happened. And last year, he hurt his Achilles tendon. His ligaments and tendons are weakened from steroid abuse and he will never be healthy again.
