Delaney & Bonnie....& Friends

Was listening to some old stuff by clapton during his blind faith days, which by the way was an epic band - love winwood - and ran across some interviews about how he largely credits Delaney Bramlett for how he adapted his vocals over the years. The combination of Delaney and his wife Bonnie, were in my opinion, one of the most underrated singer/musician combos.

Having toured, influenced and played with some of the most talented musicians of our lifetime, like Leon Russel, Skydog, greg allman, george harrison etc. I find it funny how you never really hear there names mentioned with these other greats.

Just was wondering if anyone on here were fans or had ever seen them live.

Did not Joe - and it's a major regret. You know these folks had it going on when the king of guitar (EC) leaves the first compiled supergroup (Blind Faith) mid tour and joins the opening act. Not to diminish D+B's talent, but I think the personalities and music style of D+B had a lot to do with EC's Blind Faith bailout.

Delaney and Bonnie seemed to be a group appreciated more by bands themselves and people in the industry than by fans. They were like the American version of TRex-the super "in" group that everyone talked about but had limited numbers of actual fans.

PS: Just saw a PBS special where Clapton and Winwood are both fronting the band. During the show they had a voice-over where Clapton admitted it took years of making it up to Winwood for breaking up Blind Faith.

All these reunions after all these years-I don't want to be cynical, but I do wonder if it's really guys putting bygones aside or everyone deciding that now that they are in their mid sixties or older and this is realistically their last chance to cash in on a tour...

I loved them. A few years ago my band was doing a few D+B songs, Never Ending Love, Goin' Down the Road, Superstar, and Only You Know And I Know and I emailed Delaney through his website and told him we'd be doing some of his songs that night "keeping the good stuff alive' and he actually responded and thanked me. There is a movement over on Facebook started by his family to try and get him into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame. Me and my band all signed...

That's awesome to here SoFla. It's really great to see your band was playing some D & B, not many bands out there are playing some of the classics. That's one of the big reasons why I love Chris Robinson and the crowes, as they are one of the few bands I see out on tour really keeping some of the great bands alive and covering their songs. Just over the years I've seen them you see them playing Humble Pie, The Faces, Graham Parsons, Flying Burrito Bros., Ry Cooder, The Band, Robert Johnson, The Everly Brothers, Joe Cocker, Ledbelly, Floyd etc. oh and of course Zepelin. And it's not just the fact that they make each song their own and totally own it, but introduce a lot of younger fans to music they might not have never heard before.

Turning 25 this winter, I remember all these bands specifically, because over the last 14 years of listening to the Crowes, I fell in love with songs like Boomer's Story, Up on Cripple Creek & Don't do it, 99 lbs, Pool Hall Richard, She...which than made me research and find Ry Cooder, Levon Helm and The Band, Steve Marriote and The Pie, Rod Stewart when he used to be the man and of course Graham Parsons.

It's because of a lot of these guys that I've been playing the harp and slide for as long as I have. It's just nice hearing people who are into the same music and that it's not dying.

You may enjoy this D & B cover from The Crowes, they eally do it justice and make it their own. On a sidenot, the Hammond B3 really needs to be utilized more in modern music, it's just a killer instrument (especially when played by Billy Preston!).

Joe...my son is 17 and has been playing the piano for about a year and a half. He hates today's music and actually shocked me when he asked me if we were going to do It Makes No Difference by The Band. I told him he'll always be able to work as a musician learning the stuff he's playing now with me and the band-Van Morrison, Springsteen, The Band, Dylan...if you are a Facebook member you can type in my name over there Jim DiBattista, go to my profile and watch us play some of these songs
