Ahh the bye week.....

A time to reflect on the season so far (5-1 woohoo!), to root against divisional rivals (Go Chargers!), consider the upcoming schedule (vs. Green Bay, @ Detroit, @ Cleveland? Piece of cake!), and perhaps a week to get some things done around the house (yay laundry!).

What are your thoughts on the season thus far? Is it a bad thing to consider rooting for the Dolphins to beat the Steelers in an effort to shore up the Jets' spot as the # 1 team in the conference? What are your predictions for the Jets after the bye? And what the hell are you going to do this weekend when the Jets aren't playing?

Yes it is. I remember in 2008 everyone was rooting for New England to beat them in November for that same reason, and we know all how that season ended. Lets clinch the division before we think about seeding.

You guys never seem to learn.

Just two short years ago, and sitting at 8-3, you were also talking about claiming the #1 seed in the AFC.

It's physically and mentally impossible for me to EVER root for the Dolphins

Never.

We play the Steelers in an effort to shore up the Jets' spot as the # 1 team in the conference.

This.

Bye weeks suck...especially when both your college team and NFL team have a bye the same week. Plus there's no waves this weekend. :suic3:

Yes.

You have to get out of your division first. Plus, it's tons of fun when the fish lose!

It's a bullsh*t statement this early, but I'll say it anyway: The Jets control their own destiny. wink.gif

They don't need anyone's help against the Steelers because they get to play them themselves. If they're a legitimate championship team, they'll take care of their own business. So in the meantime, I'll root against the rest of the division, and for the Oakland Raiders - who give their #1 pick to the Pats next year. Everybody root for Oakland!

Obviously, you missed my point.

The Jets need to worry about winning the AFCE (something that they haven't done outright since 1998) first, and then worry about playoff seedings.

The Jets have one goal, like everyone else, win the Super Bowl. Rex said the way he thinks they can get there is to..."lead the league in ******* wins"...pretty sure if they achieve that goal, the AFCE would be included.

Which is why I'm rooting for the Chargers to beat New England. In my mind, Miami is not a threat to win the division. I still can't bring myself to root for them, but pulling the upset on the Steelers wouldn't be a horrible outcome either.

And you should ALWAYS root for the other AFCE teams to lose until you clinch the division.

Saying that the Phins knocking off the Steelers would be a good thing for the #1 overall seed is ludicrous at this point in the season.

Hell, the Phins could get hot and make a run for the AFCE title, who knows.

There is no one particular way to root.

People root based on how they see things playing out. There is not any type of rule book on rooting.

Right now, the Jets hold an advantage over the Dolphins in head to head and in record. It is not poor rooting etiquette to root for the Dolphins, if that is where they feel the end need will be.

That is the fun of being a fan.

It's way too early to root for a non division contender for seeding purposes. Being two games ahead of Miami is a good thing.

Colts, Titans, Jets, Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Texans. 2 of these teams are missing the playoffs. I still like our chances and everything, but a lot can happen and there's too many good teams in our conference.

If the Patsies had not cheated for all those years the division picture would have looked a lot different.

But we are #1 right now. And i had rather be us than the Patsies.

The Pats have dominated the AFCE by winning 8 of the last 10 Division titles, not to mention multiple Super Bowl titles.

Over the same period, the Jets have won absolutely nothing.

I'm sure you'd rather be the Jets than the Pats.

Odd statement coming from a supposed Pats fan who is spending his golden years on a Jets message board. I could never be a Pats fan, fat dudes look stupid in sweater vest.

If you ever thought what self glorification of cheating looked like, i present Exhibit A!

You gotta be kidding me throwing that stat around!
