I just picked up Danny Woodhead in all my fantasy leagues

The Patriots deployed Danny Woodhead as a versatile and exciting threat in Week 6, and the Ravens couldn't shut him down. Woodhead wound up stealing a lot of work away from starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis, carrying the ball 11 times for 63 yards (with eight carries and 54 of the yards coming in the second half) and adding five catches for 52 yards. Put it all together and the diminutive running back had 115 yards on 16 carries.

(Updated 10/17/2010).

Fantasy Analysis

The team used Woodhead a lot like they use Wes Welker: A short-area target who can make a move and gain some big yardage. If he can fool the Ravens, expect him to be put in a position to fool other defenses too, starting with the Chargers in Week 7. San Diego's run defense got slammed by Steven Jackson in Week 6 and should be ripe for the picking by the Patriots next week. We like Woodhead as a flex option in deeper PPR leagues and even a good reserve option or one-week fill-in in standard formats too. There's some potential here.

I grabbed him on Monday thinking he could contribute rushing/receiving yards and TD's while listing out as a receiver. As I was waiting for him to clear waivers, my "buddy" GG trumped me grabbed him with some type of priority rule. When I messaged her to chastise her for her trickery, she said it was actually a move to put the maloika on him and make sure he got no more yards - now that he was a Patsie.

at espn you can use his as a wr...and in my leauge we have to start 3 WR's...i'll be using him as my 3rd WR this week even though he's been sitting on my bench for 2 weeks now. I picked him up the week after he played his first game for the pats...I had a feeling he was going to be used often...

This. I'm in a 12 man league but you start 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 Flex. And Danny Woodhead is definitely on a roster, and I'm pretty sure the dude started him last week.

If you are in a deep PPR league, its not a bad play at all.

Please let me know if you want to join any of my pay leagues next year. You would be a very welcome addition.

Bro, im a fantasy shark!!

Watch....this guy will be owned in 80 percent of all leagues by year end! The Danny Woodhead Waiver Wire pickups of the world are what win fantasy leagues!

MIke Tolbert has consistently punched me in the taint for 6 weeks now. Fat ****er. Forte I picked up in the 5th round. My 2nd round RB was Ryan Grant. Fantasy football, you are a cruel ******* mistress.

I took a different approach this year and decided to raid WRs and get a good QB while everyone hoarded running backs. Tolbert helped me out for a few weeks.

Phillip Rivers

Andre Johnson, Desean Jackson, Randy Moss, Mike Thomas, Robert Meachem, Kenny Britt

Ahmad Bradshaw, Ronnie Brown, Ryan Torain.

Dustin Keller, Jason Witten

Gostkowski

Green Bay

Worked out pretty good for me so far.

Me too.

I picked up Woodhead a week ago. Nice free agent there.

I also stole Brandon Lloyd. Admittedly I had no idea he would be THIS good but getting a guy like that undrafted is great.

Also went with Philip Rivers like someone else did here. He is severely underrated for FF. You get more value with him than virtually any other QB.

On the other hand, I took Shonne Greene at 18 overall. :(

Ryan Matthews is supposed to start getting more carries.

As for Greene, every single one of my friends thought I was going to scoop him up earlier than I should have. They couldn't believe I passed on him. As good as Green was in the playoffs last year, it was obvious that he would never be a good fantasy back.

He's a closer, and I had a feeling the Jets would go LT early similar to last year with TJ. I do think Greene will be very viable down the stretch, I couldn't believe where the fantasy buffs had him projected at.

I picked up Woodhead 2 weeks ago and started him last week. He got me 15 points. I'm in a 12 teams league with 18 player rosters. You basically get to draft 3 starters and if any of them get hurt you're screwed. I drafted Ryan Grant in round 2 and Jonathan Stewart in round 3, and picked up Jerome Harrison in round 7. Grant got hurt, Stewart decided to suck, and Mangini decided to never start his starter. Hence Woodhead.

So apparently this is the year the white RB makes a comeback? After drafting Ryan Grant in both of my leagues, I've been enjoying the rewards of Peyton Hillis as a week 1 waiver wire pickup in both leagues. This is the time of the year you start to see some very interesting pickups though, as people finally get fed up with their under-performing draft picks and try to find the hot hand, and sometimes it really works out. I still remember some years back winning my league championship thanks in large part to some guy who started the season as the third stringer at RB on the Chiefs behind Priest Holmes and Derrick Blaylock.
