And you know what sucks? Breaking down the booth when the show is over.

What doesn't suck so much...getting out early on a Friday!

Lol, hated doing setup/breakdown at tradeshows. I used to design and build these huge monolith booths for our shows, 40x20, 14 feet high, stage trussing and theatrical lighting, then it would take me 2 days to build them. I Dealing with the unions at the convention centers sucks too, a true testament to the waste and inefficiency of the modern American union and workforce.

my dad was in at a show in chicago for 2 weeks back at the beginning of september. He said the first 3 days and the last 3 days were the worst cause thats how long it took him and his guys to set up and tear down.

I don't want to start anything but I was at that show. Your Dad had that thing packed up in like 15 minutes. :D

We do a healthcare show with a 20 foot booth. It comes in like 5 crates and is just a pain in the ass. In theory it could be put up in like an hour but somehow it always seems to not work that way. Anyhow I disagee about dealing with the Unions being the sucky part. I always have us do it, but when you are in a Convention Center like you said, they have to do it. I embrace that with open arms, nothing I can do but sit back. Sure they charge you for it but a rule is a rule. :D

I did a trade show in chicago years ago. during the break down I misplaced my wallet and plane tickets,(or they were stolen, never found it) due in large part to a massive "last night party" hangover from partying with the crazy fuji film bastards

I had to call the boss and have them get in touch with the airlines to have reprinted tickets ready for me at the airport (this was pre 9/11)

since i had no money for a cab or bus, I had to sweet talk a ride with some friendly mid westerners

since I had no ID, I had to beg and charm the lady at the ticket counter at the airport to hand over the tix

made the plane by 2 minutes

would have had to sleep in the airport if I couldn't pull it off, with $0 and no ID

not a fan of trade shows anymore :D

That is brutal. And if that happened today the end result would have been worse for you, no doubt.

I was in Philaldelphia in the spring. We were told that the crates and everything in storage would be delivered to us within a half an hour of the show ending. We had room to store them in back of the booth. Well a few hours later we got our stuff.

Not as good as your fuji story, just trying to keep the thread alive. ;)

waiting sucks, especially when you are trying to split

oh man, post 9/11 I'm screwed. no ID = no travel. I couldn't even rent a car. I'd still be walking !

those fuji guys were nuts. they had a two story booth with chicks and everything, I had a "booth" you could put in the trunk of your car

Some of our competitors have these 100 foot booths. Two stories as well. Insanity.

They have teams of people putting them up. Talking like 20 plus people working on these things.
