Rookie TE who surprising stuck after final cuts. Has he been active for any games this season? I don't remember seeing him on the field.

Anyone ever seen him play?

I was just looking at the roster and he was the biggest question mark to me in terms of "why is he here?"

Taking over for Hartstock next season perhaps?

For that matter, Mulligan too. I don't recall ever seeing him although it's not like he's a guy that I'm looking for.

You know what I was thinking, without looking at our depth chart, do we even have a 5th receiver?

Also one more thing on the depth chart issue. A lot of people have brought up 4 tight ends but what about 4 quarterbacks? Why 4 quarterbacks??? Sanchez, Brunell, Clemens, O'Connell makes 4. Why didn't they keep Woodhead, C. Washington, or carry another dlineman, linebacker, etc.

Four quarterbacks... only one of which is worth a damn. BTW I feel just as good with Brad Smith running the position as I do with any of the other 3, so that's what makes it even more ridiculous.

O'Connell is IRed. He's not holding up a roster spot.

He's one of those really good athletes Illinois recruits but just doesn't seem to develop all that well in college...IIRC he was a highly recruited WR who got moved to TE in college.

Some numbers:

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=64900&draftyear=2010&genpos=TE

Has him at 6'4" 249...4.49 40...1.54 10 yard...35.5 vertical...basically he works out well. His teammate with a really long name was a better TE prospect, but I think he's got the upside of a Chris Baker or that Dolphins TE from a couple years ago Randy McMichael (if he's really good)...he's probably got alot to learn about the position.

I was thinking the same exact thing about Mulligan. For some reason I was thinking he was our LS and remembered it was Purdum. I love Tanny and I'm thrilled with the way the season is going but I'm wondering what's so special about our 4th QB and 4th TE that they take priority over depth at other positions that need it more.

As far as a 5th WR, they probably feel they don't need one with 2 no. 1's, a no. 2 plus Keller. I think if they HAD to use a 5th WR it could be Cumberland or Brad Smith. I've looked up some stuff on Cumberland and apparently he had suspect hands in college which he's been working on but did run a 4.46 at his pro day.

Cumberland hasn't been active yet this season, but based on the kind of player he is, I think he'd be more of a backup for Keller then everything, as he's more of the quick / receiving type TE. I think it was a matter of a high upside type of situation and when it comes down to guys who are going to fill the bottom of your roster, be practicing with you, but likely not being active, Cumberland is a more attractive option there. Plus its possible the Jets like having someone available who can make some catches from the TE position if something were to happen to Keller. And while the Jets are only carrying 4 WRs, I think I remember seeing comments from the Jets that they felt as though they had Keller and Cumberland as essentially additional receivers.

I would say Mulligan is more of the Hartsock replacement on the team. Mulligan has actually been active for I believe every game this season. Outside of being another blocking TE for the Jets, he also seems to have a big role on ST, which is obviously important. If I remember correctly, he was one of the guys who was shown working with Westhoff a lot during Hard Knocks and seemed to be one of "his guys", and we all know Westhoff clearly has some serious say on how the bottom of the roster comes together.

I went to type my thoughts but then I read this. Thanks for typing it out for me!
