Lions vs. Jets Prediction Thread

Hello, Jets Fans! I have posted a few times on the board and I am a Lions fan in Detroit. Each week, I write a prediction thread along with comparisons of defense, offense, etc. We usually have 20-30 replies and I thought I would join the board and post what I wrote and get your opinions. Good luck this week!

2-5 Lions vs. 5-2 Jets

Lions Rush O vs. Jets Rush D

The Jets are 4th in the league, giving up only 88 yards on the ground per game. Meanwhile, Detroit is only averaging 82 yards a game on the ground. The Jets have gone against Ray Rice, Miami's run offense and Minnesota's run offense. Even with Kris Jenkins done for the year, David Harris (the guy the Lions shoulda drafted because he went to my high school!!!!) is a stud in the middle and has Bart Scott with him to tell you all about it.

EDGE: Jets

Lions Pass O vs. Jets Pass D

The Jets are giving up 220 yards through the air and the Lions are passing it for 250 yards through the air. Statistically, the Lions should have a slight edge until you see that Revis and Cromartie who is exceeding the expectation of him are in the secondary. The only way the Lions win is if Calvin has a day against Revis, something many have not done. However, if Calvin TRULY wants to be elite, he needs to dominate here.

EDGE: Jets

Jets Rush O vs. Lions Rush D

The Jets rush the ball among the best in the league behind one of the best O lines in the league. The Lions have been a little leaky but have really, really tightened it up lately. LT seems to have found his legs again and is running the ball strong behind the O line. Suh will need to continue his level of play and the LBs will have to play like studs to stop the run this week. That's a lot of "have to".

EDGE: Jets

Jets Pass O vs. Lions Pass D

The Jets are 27th in the league in passing, Detroit is 19th in the league in Pass D. Mark Sanchez, sorry folks, is a GAME MANAGER, not a guy who is going to throw for 340 and 3 scores. (I've now jinxed the Lions, right?) Alphonso Smith has stepped up and Amari Spievey will need to grow up quickly to help out this week. The Jets receivers? Braylon, the drop artist, Edwards, Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery who has been non-existent.

EDGE: Lions

PREDICTION

I want to say Lions, Lions, Lions. We won last week! We are playing good defense! St. Louis is bad, Washington is not that good. The Jets ARE that good. It will be closer than you think, probably closer to what Vegas thinks, but the Jets hold on and win.

Jets 17, Lions 14

Good break down. Fair honest assessment. You are the type of visiting fan that actually contributes and not trolls. Thanks for that.

I see this game totally different. A complete shoot out. Sanchez has a career day and the offense has its best outing of the year.

However, the Jets will lose 41-38. Stafford will throw for 5 TD's and CJ will catch 4 of them on Revis.

If the Lions can somehow pick up our blitz I might agree with the 41-38 but I don't think they can Stafford is going to have to make the quickest decisions of his career it should be interesting to see.

Seems like a pretty good evaluation although the one thing I find funny is that for all of the crap Braylon gets for his drops, he has EASILY been the most sure-handed receiver the Jets have this season. Holmes and Cotchery had more drops last week than Braylon has had all season.

I think your prediction sounds about right, the Jets offense just isn't at a place where they're going to be putting up a ton of points, especially on the road. Plus as long as they don't fall behind, the Jets will probably be content to play ball control and keep the score low. This one is going to be closer than most Jets fans would like it to be. The Lions offense is legit, but if the Jets D can play like they're capable of, a Jets win in a low-scoring affair seems very likely.

Mark Sanchez is NOT a game manager. Sorry

Jets 31 Lions 10

This is why I posted to have discussion. As I stated on some other posts, I have watched maybe 2-3 jets games in the last few years, probably last year's playoffs. (Lions fans always watch OTHER TEAMS' playoffs.)

Last year as a rookie, Sanchez started 15 games and threw for 2,444 yards or roughly 162 yards per game. He threw a little more than a pick a game and a little less than a touchdown a game. NOW GRANTED, he was a rookie with a great defense and they never had to ask him to win a game.

In 2010, he has thrown for 1,356 yards in 7 games, a little less than 200 yards per game. This year has a little bit more than a touchdown a game and a little bit less than half an INT per game.

WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, he has not been asked to win a game yet for the Jets. Shonn Greene did an outstanding job last year running the football along with Thomas Jones. This year, LT has burst onto the scene. Your O Line is great, hands down. By the way, have I even mentioned the defense yet?

I just think right now Sanchez is more of a game manager and not been asked to throw the ball 45-50 times to win a game and done it. Now, don't take this as I'm saying "Your QB sucks." He is a good ball player but, to this point, he is showing more as a MANAGER than a GAME CHANGER.

For Fair Balance, Stafford has been nothing more than an injury riddled QB who makes plays but also makes a large amount of mistakes.

Good post and your right. This is why i thought Rodgers would torch us. Guy makes really quick decisions, but we didn't blitz him nearly as much as other QB's.. Stafford's going to get the heat a lot

I tend to agree. All Mark needs to be is a game manager on this team, and he seems to press a little bit when he's asked to be more.

Great posts, btw. If the commissioner decides to realign the league, I'd welcome Detroit into the AFCe based on your posting alone.

I think the Lions are a better team than their record. They just need to learn how to win. Once they get that mentality, they'll compete. They're still a work in progress, but have some excellent talent to work with.

As for this week, I think you're catching the Jets at a bad time. They're going to be very hungry to put that embarrassing shutout loss at home as far behind them as possible. Could mean some forced errors, but I think it should mean a pretty solid win for the Jets. The Stafford-Sanchez matchup is an interesting one, and Stafford could easily wind up with the better day, statistically.

First of all, thanks. Every now and then we get a dude on our site that just says our team sucks, our fans suck, etc. But, I like having the debate each week with another team's fans in a manner that is facts, not pure Kool Aid drinking. After all, I'm a Lions fans. I can only write "Williams Clay Ford sucks" so many times.

As for your post about the Lions, we ARE a better team but we ARE a young team. Everyone wants to point to our 0-24 record on the road over the last 3 years but we this team is TOTALLY different than what we have had in the past. We actually have a 6 letter word that Millen killed: Talent. Take out our loss to the Vikings, and our losses are by 2 to the Packers, 5 to the Bears (arguable and don't throw the rule book at me. Use your eyes), 3 to the Eagles though the game was not that close, 8 to the Giants but the game was closer than that. We are finally playing this year.

Good luck this week and I hope to see you guys in the playoffs as I hate the Pats because of Brady...I'm a Michigan State grad!

Not if you have dreams of winning a Super Bowl...

Jets 38

Lions 17

Schwartz is an absolutely awesome coach, but I don't think they're there yet as a team and there's no reason the Jets should lose this. The Lions O-line is mediocre at best and needs to be rebuilt...I'm kind of rooting for Fox to turn into a LT for them....the OL just doesn't make holes in the running game and their young QB has separated his shoulder two or three times already.

The offense will have a great day for the Jets...but I'm still waiting for the week our D explodes....It might be this week...they SHOULD be the best unit on the team and we've really only seen that in flashes this year...yes I know they've been playing really well...Rex Ryan D's have a really high standard...JMO.

Nothing here I really disagree with. I just think the score will be much closer thatn 38-17, or at least I don't see 38 points on the board. We are still learning as a team. The hope, at least from this Lions fan, is that they truly give Schwartz 4 years to turn it around. We have had WAY too many 2-3 year coaches.

I agree with you. Like I said, I think it's the timing of the game that's going to make the difference for the Jets this week. Coming off such an ugly loss, the Jets are really going to be primed not to be embarrassed again. The offense really needs to step up. Revis, too, I think is chomping at the bit to face Calvin Johnson. That's probably the matchup of the week by anyone's standard. He's just getting back to his old self. Forget what JiF has to say about him, Revis took his lunch money.

Good luck this week and I hope to see you guys in the playoffs as I hate the Pats because of Brady...I'm a Michigan State grad!

Then what you really need to do is make sure you crush them on Thanksgiving! biggrin.gif

Haven't you heard? That's all it takes.

I think the score gets up there because the Jets will run the ball well against you guys. Your DL is active and such, but susceptible to the run...IMO Suh is actually better against the pass than he is the run so far in his young NFL career....and everything on that DL works around Suh.

Please note Jet fans that I still think and hope the Jets throw the ball too. They have a few talented DBs but we happen to have a few extremely talented WRs with bruised egos/chips on their shoulders.

I just took the BIGGEST dump of my life. My stomach hurt this morning and I sucked it up and held it until I got to work. What happened was seriously the biggest dump I've ever taken. It was at least a solid 18 inches long, and it wasn't a stringy one, it had some girth.

My poop is telling me this weekend will be epic.
