6-2 at the Halfway Point

I think we're right where we should be and where we expected to be.

I also like our upcoming matchups and the opportunity to possibly go on a win streak, albeit while we're in our "midseason swoon". The battle of the Ryan brothers in Cleveland. Home games against Houston and Cincy heading into the New England game. Meanwhile, the Pats get to play @ Pitt, home against the Colts and then @ Detroit.

We have a lot of improvements we need to make but they're all correctable. The dumb penalties. The stale play-calling on offense. The confidence of Sanchez and his receivers.

The only weakness we'll struggle with all year long regardless of what changes we make are our issues with the underneath passes. Coleman, Leonhard, Smith and Pool are what they are in coverage, and Cro is, of course, better against deep threats than guys like Nate Burleson. Hopefully, Rex can mask this as much as possible and we can start getting more hits on the QB. Turnovers will be the result if/when we figure this out.

Thoughts halfway through the year?

Agree that 6-2 is a nice place to be and cannot complain considering we could have easily lost both today and the Denver game.

While the upcoming schedule looks favorable I will not take any game for granted after the past few weeks. The team has a lot to clean up and really needs to establish a offensive identity. That along with needing to get to the QB more in my opinion is holding the team back from moving to the next level.

I feel like this Jets team is different than many because they truly find a way to win.

No Jets team I've ever watched in my life time wins that game or Denver.

We have a ton of room to improve and thats exciting, but this isnt going to be an easy road unless Sanchez and the offense can find a rhythm. We do that, and we are a really good team.

We are underachieving in terms of performance but right where we should be with wins.

being 6-2 with a lot of room for improvement is nice, but I won't really be happy until they get 9 wins with a few weeks left on the schedule

it's been a while since I was cheering for a team as they fought for a high playoff seed

12 years actually

It all comes out in the wash. We could have won the Ravens and Packers game...I like where we're at.

If you had to grade it out overall, I'd say the team overall deserves an A- or a B+. I'm thrilled to be 6-2 but we've been playing ugly football ever since the Buffalo game. Unlike the Jets of old, however, we're winning those games.

There's very few teams, if any, who wouldn't trade places with us in a heartbeat. 6-2, 3-0 in the Division heading into the 2nd half of the season. Here we go.

Our defense has kept us in every game and that's not by luck at all.

Your right.

Here’s what it comes down to. The team in general is good enough to play for all the marbles.

If Sanchez is the QB we saw for about 10 seconds at the end of the first half, and the last 3:24 of this game, book your tickets to Dallas right now.

If he is the QB we saw for the other 55+ mins, book your Tee times right now.

Kids gat a lot of talent, now is the time we need him to mature

It took the Jets 7 1/2 quarters to get refocused after the bye because Rex sent them home or where ever the **** they went for a week, that was a BIG mistake. I just hope he doesnt do the same thing Wild card weekend when we are watching to see who will come to our house for the divisional game.

+1 Agreed, if Sanchez can start completing the passes that the Elite QB's do, like the INT he threw if he leads Holmes there its an easy TD, which is actually a step in the right direction cause it was a right decision throw that was not accurate INT instead of a bone headed decision INT, I can deal with the inaccurate ones once in awhile it happens even Manning throws those, but he needs to hit that pass more than not for us to win the SB.

Very happy to be 6-2. And have a defense that keeps us in every game. And knowing that the mistakes of the offense are very correctable. But I still can not stand this Shottenheimer. He just does not understand a very simple concept. I don't care if you have the best running attack in football (which the Jets might have) or the worst passing attack (which they certainly do not), you have to mix up your play selection to keep the defense off balance as much as possible. That means, very simply, throwing the ball on first down every now and then other than the last few minutes of the game. Sperm had a post where he recapped something like the last 10 drives by the Jets which all started with runs on first down!!! Now, if they were dominating on the ground and leading throughout the game, that's different. But those games are rare. Shotty just does not get it. He makes it so much more difficult for the runners and o-line to establish a running attack becuase the defense knows what is coming on every play. And then he is constantly putting Mark into 3rd and long situations.

This team has a lot of talent. And Shotty is not their only weakness (mediocre safeties, no pass rush without full blitzes, Sanchez still learning, Damien Woody seems to finally be showing some age, etc.). But I really think with a decent OC, this team is 8-0 and the envy of the NFL despite the other weaknesses. There are no great teams in the NFL this year. Not even close. The Jets could be that one dominating team, even with Shottenheimer. Somebody just needs to tell him you are allowed to throw the ball on first down in the first three quarters of football. It really is that simple.

We're in a great spot.

But we need to play better if we want to be a serious contender.

Those are my thoughts at midseason.

Thanks for keeping it brief.

Hate to say it, but the jints look pretty serious.

Two big problems I see are,

1.) the dreaded offensive playcalling that everyone wants to talk about, and

2.) not creating enough takeaways.

With the defense as good as it is, it's frustrating that they're not stealing the ball. It's a testament to how well their playing that they can keep us in a road game against a high scoring offense when their own offense is turning it over a couple times - but that game isn't causing heart failure if the Jets manage a couple turnovers. Get this offense on a short field once in a while, and they probably don't look nearly as bad.

Im very happy were 6-2 and i think were very fortunate to be in that position. Our offense scares the sh*t out of me. Something needs to be done this team has too many weapons to look so flat for so many games in a row .

At 20-10 down with 6 minutes to go, someone on the sidelines said "f this, let's just open it up" now why can't we play like that all the time?

I don't think we're going to be as much of a ground/pound team as last year. We don't have 2 bruisers. LT, even though it appeared to be a "down" game today, he had 100 yards rushing/receiving! We're just slightly different now.

I'll tell you this.. the 5th rounder for Holmes deal paid off in 1 play.

Giants look pretty good, but I'll be impressed when they beat somebody that is good.

The lack of takeways is due to not getting much pressure on the QB. I don't understand why it is not as good as last year, even though we have pretty much the same front seven. Maybe offenses are figuring out Rex's blitzes. I do wish they would blitz Harris more. He is a beast rushing the passer and much better at that than pass defense.

A year ago the team was 4-4 after 8 games.

My opinion (I haven't looked up the numbers): Two key areas, our pass defense and run game was better last year.

Yet this year we have a better record at 6-2. Just a fluke?

IMO two reasons for the improvement: (a) the QB improving in his 2nd year, and (B) the improvement in talent via FA signing.

Re: the constant complaints towards Schotty. Hard to say if the offensive woes are due to bad play calling or just the offense not executing and making mental errors. It seems to me we are passing more because we are not dominating with the run. Not just because Schotty wants to pass more.

In any case Schotty will not be fired unless the offense has several games like they did against GB and the Ravens.

I for one am very excited about our chances for the next 8 games.

I hope the offense finds its groove again like they did for that 5 game streak.

The defense is doing just fine although I'd love more of a pass rush.

I think we have a real shot of going into the NE game 9-2

My biggest concern so far this year (besides the predictable play calling) is the absolute bust this 2010 draft has shown itself to be. Kyle Wilson is a BIG disappointment as a cover guy and sucks in the return game too, Vlad who was almost given the LG job after being drafted is a disaster so far-except for John Connor oh yea Joe friggin McNight-are you kiddding me-worst Jets draft class since I don't even know when

My thoughts exactly, JiF.

I'm still stunned they won it. I've been watching the Jets for about 30 yrs now and I can never remember them winning the game being down 10 with 5 minutes to go. The Monday Night Miracle was epic because of how huge the deficit was, but by the 5 minute left mark the Jets had come back and there was the back-and-forth scoring after that.

People talk about the mistakes, but the beauty of it is that Rex & Sanchez KNOW about the mistakes. This is not a situation where we fans are pulling out our hair because the HC & QB don't GET IT. They do GET IT. They understand. They're working on getting things fixed. But even with that they're still winning games.

It just seems as if, if the Jets don't shot themselves in the foot they'll win every game by 14+ points.

The offense is the real issue as we all know and has been stated.

I think Schotty has to be drilled into his head to play the game "straight up." Stop with all the substitutions. Let Sanchez play fast. He seems to get in an easy rhythm when he's hiking the ball at the 10-12 second mark.

Still be balanced, 50-50, 51-49 run-pass. The Jets have the personnel to punish defenses running the ball and passing it. Just use that talent. This team will win a lot of game on talent & execution, not scheme.

Its nice they are conscious of their mistakes/flaws. Its refreshing to hear them talk openly about them. However, its time to start putting the money where your mouth is. The same flaws are the same flaws that plagued us a year ago and throughout the season. I like the fact we recognize them and we arent afraid to make changes, something the Mangini era would have never done, but its time to step up and fix them.

Luckily, they have been getting away with their mistakes and its not hurting in the win column probably as bad as it should be. But things have to change to be a contender. One part of our offense needs to become dominate, either the run game or the passing attack. Until then, this is one of those teams that have all the right ingredients, but they cant cook to save their life.

Ohhhhhhhh good for you , 6 and 2 , look at me.

And 3-0 in the division. Don't forget that part.

That's pretty funny right there with the Jets 2 fluke wins against the 2-6 Broncos and 2-6 Lions.

You know what's funnier? Cleveland Browns 34, New England Patriots* 14. Fluke win >>> Blowout loss to the Fighting Peyton Hillis's.

While I am happy with 6-2, the Jets should have won the Packers game. Coming off a bye at home, giving up only three field goals, horrible loss. The Jets should be 7-1 but 6-2 will do just fine.

The Pats lost to a team that destroyed the Super Bowl champs. Nothing embarassing to losing against a good team.

On the other hand, the Jets have 2 fluke wins against teams that are a combined 4-12.
