And it has begun.....

I've always wondered why you all hate Penny so much. I think he was a decent QB and I believe that he would have been better if he hadn't been injured so much and managed better. Do you all think he would have been more effective if he had the o-line the Jets have now? Just askin'....

Come on, you have to be kidding. The Jets OL was not the problem. There may've been some bumps in between, the got to play with the likes of Mawae, McKenzie, Fabini, Moore, Kendall, Brick, Mangold... he didn't have a whole lot to complain about.

The fact is that Pennington was chronically mediocre. Never bad enough to get benched, never good enough to actually win a damn thing. The Raiders in 2002, the Steelers 2004, the Pats in 2006, and even the Ravens in 2008. Every time this guy made it to the playoffs he was utterly EMBARRASSED and was one of the primary reasons for his teams constant inability to advance past the division round (if not the wild card). When you are talking about a QB, unless you are rebuilding team, there is nothing worse than that kind of QB. At least teams will try to replace pure crap, players like him just waste away the rest of the talent of your team while never being upgraded.

I dont think HATE is the right word. I feel like a lot of people liked him and wished he could just throw the ball deep. He is stritctly a dink and dunk qb which makes a team so easy to defend. His inury's definitely screwed him he might have been a great QB otherwise.

Nah, I hated him.

Or rather, over time I grew to hate him. As I said above, he was a primary cause of this team's inability to get anywhere significant in his time as the starting QB. When push came to shove and the Jets needed their QB to come up big, he always failed. The fact is that if not for Favre becoming available in 2008 he might still be the Jets starting QB, Mangini is probably still the HC and the Jets get nowhere near the AFC Championship last year.

Ok thats fair enough, I can definitely understand growing to hate him after all the mediocrity.

wow.. i was 1 game off.. pennington coming in just quickly enough to hit the easy part of the schedule

i hope TN maims him

They will, but it'll be his first game back and he'll get the "rust" excuse. Plus, the Dolphins are going to get smacked around in every phase of the game, so I'm sure he'll get a pass and the blame will surely get spread around to others all over the place. After that he'll start dinking and dunking his way to some real close, low-scoring losses.

Look at the rest of thier schedule, we're the onyl decent team left after TN

Henne faced baltimore, pitts, GB, minn, penny gets cleveland, oakland, chicago and detroit.. too funny.. the guy really is satan

The OLine the Jets had during his "prime" was as good as this line. The only time he had a bad line was the year Clemens had to step in and play 8 games. Chad has been considered "smart" because he takes what the defense gives him. Problem is every D givwes up something. They do so deliberately because it's very rare that a D can cover every player and every play perfectly, so they have to decide what to "allow" the other team to do that causes the least harm. Chad takes what the D allows and plays right into their hands. He can not and never could force his will upon a defense. His arm strength wouldn't allow it to an extent, but his mentality was weak minded in my opinion. The more aggressive the D he faced, the more he crumbles. The best way to play Chad Pennington is to bring the safeties up, have an athletic defender cover the TE and RB out of the backfield, and blitz the hell out of him. He won't punish you over the top if you do this. He won't even try. He'll try to force the ball into the dump off receiver because that's what he's "supposed" to do, and if you have that guy covered tight you'll get the pick just like BAL did in the playoffs against him.

To be honest, what Curtis Martin did in his career is only all the MORE impressive to me considering he played against 8 in the box his entire time with Pennington. I think the real question right now is what could Curtis Martin have done with a full career behind a line like that and a QB like Sanchez?

@ Oakland is going to be tough for them. Those west Coast trips are killer. They also face the Patriots again, and let's face it, how many times has Pennington beaten their defense, even if it's taken a step back?

To me they're going to end up with 8 or 9 wins and are going to be left wondering whether they should start Pennington next year or draft a QB.

I don't disagree and I'm sure he'll look fine numbers wise, as he does. Low picks, high completion percentage and all that nonsense, but you know as well as I do he can't put teams away and will crumble against even a crappy team that puts together a good game plan against him. Of those four games you mentioned, AT LEAST one of them is going to be a loss. They'll end up with a decent looking record, probably about 9-7 but not enough to make the playoffs, while still enough to make him look like a hero and gain endless amounts of praise once again ("If only Pennington was the starter since week one!"). If we and Henne are both lucky, he'll be traded out of the conference at season's end.

And while the Dolphins may be a better team, Chicago's defense is the kind that will give Pennington major problems, and I wouldn't count on him doing much against a Rob Ryan coached defense either. He'll do well enough to get praised, but the Dolphins aren't going anywhere near the playoffs.

I've always thought he was a good, not great, smart QB with a pretty bad O-line. But, others hate him. Just the way the fan base rolls.

OK little woofs and fishies, it's time to update our favorite list...

Today we learned all about DESPERATION and FAILURE!

Now it's time to see a larger sample size of this, and again we will try to figure out who is the future QB of the dolphags.

Let me reestablish this first though... Henn-e is not the future.

Here is the list of previous responses:

Of course he's not Damon Huard is!

No wait Jay Fiedler is!

OK Sage Rosenfels!

Ray Lucas?

I know I know Brian Griese!

How about A.J. Feeley?

Gus Frerotte LMAO!

Daunte Culpepper yeah that's the ticket!

It's Joey Harrington I tell ya!

Cleo Lemon maybe?

Here we go, here we go Trent Green!

This time we got it for sure John Beck!

Chad Pennington's great now!

I could have sworn Chad Henne was the future! :suicide:

Pat White, hey they draft great baseball players!

:bwahaharoll:

Looks like it's time to add old noodle arm back to the end of this list.

So you know what else we learned today my starved little blow holed canis lupuses?

We learned that not only are the phags a joke full of DESPERATION and FAILURE, but chad pennington now has two spots on the list, to go with his two CPOY awards. :rl:

As always have a wonderful existence and keep your fin up!

Sincerely, teh woof.
