Jetfan13
The praise has flowed freely all week at Jets headquarters for the Browns’ 6-2, 250-pound primary ballcarrier. Legs like stumps. Runs through defenders but yet nimble enough to hurdle them. The present-day incarnation of Mike Alstott. His name is Peyton Hillis, and among the defenses he’s battered are the Ravens (144 rushing yards), Bengals (102) and Patriots (184). This week he’s the Jets’ load, in what should be an old-school slugfest between a bruising running back and a physical Rex Ryan defense that has so far been excellent against the run. “He’s the throwback,” the Jets coach said. “The old three yards and a cloud of dust. But unfortunately, he’s getting about five yards and a cloud of dust.” That’s not an exaggeration. Hillis’ output has yo-yoed this season, from 28 rushing yards to 184 and two touchdowns, but his yards per carry through eight games is an impressive 4.8. He has scored in every game except one, tied for fifth in the NFL with 48 points. Ryan also noticed in breaking down Cleveland’s past three games that the Browns only had three third-and-long situations, evidence of the effectiveness of their ground-and-pound attack. On the flip side, the Jets are allowing their opponents just 87.4 rushing yards per game, fourth-best in the league, and just 3.3 yards per carry, second-best in the league. Stopping Hillis will be a unique task, as he’s a hybrid tailback-fullback, and has played both positions. He runs downhill, squares his shoulders and “dares you to tackle for four quarters,” linebacker Bart Scott said. He completes a physical Browns offensive cast in which, defensive tackle Trevor Pryce proclaimed, “the only small one’s the quarterback, and everybody else blocks out the sun.” “I think our D-linemen were glad to hear finally the game’s going to be more old school,” defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said. “They call them the ‘Arena’ teams; they get tired of playing ‘Arena Football.’ They want it to be a little more, as we would say, blunt-force trauma.” The Browns often use heavy packages, and their strength is not their 25th-ranked passing game. The Jets’ answer will be to match that personnel, bringing in their bigger bodies and possibly using four down linemen more often. Ryan indicated defensive end Vernon Gholston will see more playing time, matchup driven. Pettine credited the Jets’ tight run defense so far to personnel, sure tackling and scheme. With solid corner play on the outside, he said, they can play with a single-high safety and put eight men in the box. To stay on track this week, the Jets have studied in particular how Hillis gashed the Patriots, just last week, and the Ravens, whose defense is similarly styled to the Jets. “I figured out some weak links, some things that went wrong and what happened,” Scott said. “Try and make sure they don’t happen to us.” One of Hillis’ weaknesses is fumbling. He has lost the ball four times this season, in 133 carries, tied with the Giants’ Ahmad Bradshaw for the most fumbles in the league among running backs. This week, the Jets are preaching swarming the ballcarrier and trying to jar the ball loose. This is the kind of matchup Scott likes to call a “double chin-strap game” — and there will only be one outcome. “It’s what they like to do, against what we pride ourselves on doing,” outside linebacker Jason Taylor said. “At the end of the day, one of those things has to give. We’ll see.”
Matt39
Irvin comes back with, "No, that's not the only way ... but it's certainly one way ... [maybe his] great, great, great, great Grandma pulled one of them studs up outta the barn [and said] 'come here for a second' ... back in the day ...(more sinister laughter)"
JiF
The guys is ******* truck. We need to have some practices tackling the Terminator to get used to how much its going to hurt tackling him...especially DB's. I can see Cromartie now. Funny they call all those team Arena teams. You'd think Sanchez would prefer playing the Arena teams...
KSJets
This sucks.... I have LT, LeSean McCoy, and Hillis on my Fantasy team. I've been starting LT and McCoy all year except for their byes. Now I'm torn because our running game hasn't been that effective the last several weeks, and Hillis has been a beast. Of course, now he's going up against the Jets and our run defense. It's times like this when I hate Fantasy Football...lol.

A double chin-strap game? Is he going to buckle either of them?

JetsFanInDenver
Lets face it. The Pats D has more pores than a sieve! The JETS D will shut the running game. There is a reason why they are 4th in the league in rushing defense.

Larz
NFL network just did the game preview, they showed the jets in a bunch of different fronts vs the lions and then showed hillis abusing the pats and basically said the browns have no speed at WR, the jets will contain hillis and win
