T0mShane
...in case you weren't convinced that the movie was an abortion from the first 2 hours. For our cinephiles, has there ever been a "Director's Cut" that actually improved on the theatrical release? It's usually an extra twenty minutes of useless dialogue and boredom. RutgersJetFan
The director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is fantastic. Scott fought tooth and nail to get that version released in theaters and obviously failed, which is a shame. It's an incredible movie. The studio did a series of endless, needless cuts to make it an action-adventure film when it's clear as day watching the Director's Cut that Scott intended it to be a historical epic and not the former. It's no coincidence that critics did a complete 180 once it came out. IMO it is one of the best movies of the 2000's, and it pisses me off that it gets a bad rap by the general public because the studio decided to butcher it. To be honest I think a legit argument can be made that it's Scott's best film ever, which is saying a ton. The Warriors DC is pretty cool. They inserted comic book transitions in between the scenes which definitely works and added some more stuff in. It's kind of hard not to love The Warriors. The Richard Donner Cut of Superman II is pretty cool, it's a completely different movie really. Das Boot, Metropolis, and Blade Runner also are better. Not as big a fan of Apocalypse Now Redux as some were. I thought it made the flick waaaayyyy too long. And Donnie Darko is also supposedly very good for fans, except personally I hate that movie. Avatar is an absurdly stupid (and not to mention offensive) movie. Cameron is an innovator for that type of technology, and he deserves credit for that, but he's a tool for analogizing American troops in such a light. I can't imagine a scenario that would entice me to sit through it again.
Thor99
Believe it or not, the Daredevil Director's cut actually makes it watchable. I agree with you on Redux and Blade Runner.
SenorGato
Avatar was and is an abomination. RJF, those first two movies are two favorites.
war ensemble
The Lord of the Rings director cut version is much better than the cinema one, and actually explains stuff like Boromir's actions if you've never read the books.
vanDoug
Never saw Avatar. This makes me not want to see it even more.
rillo
Tried watching it this weekend on - On Demand and fell asleep. Acting and the dialogue was pretty bad IMO. Don't see what's the big deal about this movie.
Greenranger
Avatar was awful. It was just Pocahontas with blue people.

Don't see what's the big deal about this movie. In the theater, is was visually stunning. I have no need to see it again at home on my TV, though. And I definitely don't need to see a longer version of it.

Larz
avatar, at it's heart, is a story about connections and choices it's the only 3D movie to ever make use of the technology to it's full potential I was so immersed in the theatre, I literall jogged to the bathroom, and while I was gone for 90 seconds, 2 people tried to sit in my seat because the theatre was jammed you don't get that in 2D obviously like all great sci-fi, it is a good old fashined drama disguised in monsters and laser guns a lot of the crticism came from the obvious similarities to the iraq war, but if you read anything about human history, you could literally make a hundred associations of superior civilizations raping inferior civilizations, so I saw this on that level, and it didn't bother me

I totally agree with you about Avatar with the awful analogies, too. Talk about beating an audience over the head with idiotic moralizing.

For our cinephiles, has there ever been a "Director's Cut" that actually improved on the theatrical release? It's usually an extra twenty minutes of useless dialogue and boredom. In the 1980s "Godfather I and II' were rebroadcast on network television in chronological order(the deNiro/Sicily stuff 1st) along with added footage not included in the theatrical release, like a young Hyman Roth meeting Vito/Deniro, and the girl Johnny Fontaine ruined interrupting Hagen's dinner at Woltz's house in grand fashion. With commercials it ran about 9 or 10 hours, but still was a good and faithful representation of the originals. No idea if it's ever been released on DVD or run on a cable channel since. I love "Apocalpyse" because my mom was if a film class when it came out and she had to write her college term paper about it. So we all were dragged to the movies and saw it a bunch of times. But "Redux" is a little much. the French plantation scenes are way out there, and add nothing. Would like to see "Back to the Future" with Eric Stoltz as McFly. And they are going to release it. They filmed almost the whole movie with him until they realized Stoltz didn't understand it was a comedy. They then brought in Michael J. Fox and refilmed everything with him in the lead. The Godfather Saga. It's kind of both hit and miss IMO. It's worth it for the extra scenes with Roth and Michael's homecoming, but on the other hand it's almost an AMC-Sopranosesque version of it. Definitely worth catching for the extra stuff if you have the time, and it's interesting to watch everything in chronological order too. I actually wound up watching this when I was banished to bed through a bout with mono during my freshman year at Rutgers.
