J-Co "The Catch"

The funny part is that I don't think this one should even be labeled that. The one-hander he had in '08 at NE was way more impressive, and there was one more, I forget which year, but he contorted his body so that it was parallel to the ground almost and then sprang back up for extra yardage in NE...that was probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen an athlete do with their body.

The catch against the Patriots was amazing and I'm not sure if I remember the other one you're talking about but it sounds familiar. However I think you can call this the catch just because he was already injured and was ready to give up on the play and then looked back and made an insane diving catch. That catch absolutely blows my mind.

Agree. That aspect of it makes it truly incredible. Most healthy receivers (Randy Moss anyone?) do not give great effort adjusting to the QB on a broken play. Hopping on one leg??? You have to be kidding me. Cotchery is the man!!!

I still think the most impressive play I've seen him have was when he had that catch at about the 5 yard line and reached into the endzone as one of the defenders was driving into him.

If you're talking about the play I think you are, that was actually the home opener against NE back in 2006. I was at that game, it was absolutely insane. That was the game where after getting beat up for the first half, Cotchery and Coles both broke off ridiculous long TDs back to back to make things interesting.

Even if that's not the one you were talking about, it was f'n awesome.

Also can't help put to include the first catch you mentioned, which is still one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

Yahtzee. Thanks for posting that. Unreal how his feet get leveled out from under him and he stays up. Just unreal.

Not a problem. I actually immediately knew what game it was, because sad to say that was actually the first regular season Jets game I ever made it to (prior to that it had only been a bunch of preseason games and the Saints "home game" against the Giants). Although that's also the reason that game and play are completely ingrained into my memory. I can tell you that being there, when he popped up and started running again there was a stadium-wide moment of "WTF, wasn't he tackled?" before everyone started losing their minds. I only wish they had the slow-motion close-up replay of that up there, because like you said, it shows the ridiculous contortion act he pulled off.

The replay from the opposite angle actually showed it off much better I remember. It almost defies physics.

What are the odds of this board going off when he drops a simple one the next time ?

Over under on number of threads with the hate Cotch message.

I don't think it was hate as much as it was frustration. He's been such a safety valve for Jet fans for a long time, just an absurdly reliable guy every year through some really bad ones. This year, for the most part, it looked like his problems were all mental and very much related to a lack of effort on a lot of missed opportunities and drops. It was just so...NOT him. This past game was the first one in several weeks where it looked like he was giving it his all out there.

Nobody is saying it will be hate. It is frustration!

But if things don't go the other way that frustration can bubble up pretty quick! :)

Its good to see Cotch going in the last game. I agree he did look his old self.

Agreed. Cotch was always such an easy guy to root for and one of those quality, under the radar kind of guys you just love to have as a fan. The slow start was just surprising and then the issues he had were as you said, frustrating. He just didn't seem to be the same player who made the kind of ridiculous pure effort plays like the ones we saw yesterday or were talking about in this thread.

+1. I was at that game too. Field level seats on the Pats side so I was about 60 feet from Cotch when he made that play. It was absolutely sick. The play Coles made just a few minutes later was awesome. Two of the best plays I've ever seen from a Jets WR and glad to say I was there for both.
