Ramblings on the season again...

Random thoughts about this NFL season and stuff:

- The idea that the Jaguars-Giants game will be any good because they're both 6-3 seems laughable. The Jaguars suck. The Giants should whoop some a$$. Only reason it might be close is that the WRs are so injured for the Giants.

- I'm surprised at how little the Giants and Steelers get talked about as being the best of the teams that have "been there" recently...Both of those teams were fairly young, especially at QB, and both of those QBs are still around and pretty damn good.

- Still believe whoever wins the NFC East will rep the NFC in the Super Bowl.

- Philip Rivers is on pace for 37/14 TD/INT and 5083 yards. Man on a mission...I'm actually taking the Chargers on Sunday.

- The Jets could be Arizona. Arizona got a crapload of talent together, got an old QB, and made it to the Super Bowl that year. Now they have no QB, and all that wasting talent...they're almost certainly going to lose Fitzgerald next year...The Jets obviously lost with their old QB and went for the young gun with a top 5 pick the very next year.

- I'm afraid Favre might not end because Arizona and Larry Fitzgerald/Steve Breaston/Doucet need a QB.

- Texans need to get more DBs and a good DT before they become official. Schaub's a 9-7/10-6 QB, but with a D that offense could do alot of things in a tournament like the playoffs. Shaun Rogers could like it down there next to Williams...

- Don't buy the Falcons D, and I think their offense can be stopped.

- If the Bucs make it to the playoffs will be the '06 Jets. They'll get dismantled handily. Freeman is talented, but their D isn't scary good and the offense is meh even with Freeman right now.

- The Steelers > Ravens. The D is better than the Ravens, and Roethsliberger >>>> Flacco.

- Whoever gets to coach and clean out the Cowboys will be a lucky guy. Build on Ware, Bryant, and Romo and go from there...each has years left on them at some key spots.

- The 49ers job is the 2nd best gig available this offseason.

- The Eagles most underrated unit the secondary. They've played great, especially since the DL lost Bunkley. This is their year since this is probably the best season they'll get some Samuels. They're the real reason the Eagles might beat the Giants out.

- Mangini's the man and keeping the Cleveland job.

Giants might be done. As good as Bradshaw's numbers appear, that entire offense relied on Eli getting the ball downfield to Nicks and Smith. If teams don't have to cover them, it's all-out blitz time on Eli, followed by picks all over the field, followed by the Giants corners getting mercilessly exposed on a short field. Their only hope is for Tuck and Osi to go crazy sacking the quarterback down the stretch.

Hello, Philly. How much would Goodell love an Eagles-Steelers Super Bowl where the entire storyline will revolve around "The Rapist v. The Dog Killer"?

Philip Rivers is on pace for 37/14 TD/INT and 5083 yards. Man on a mission...I'm actually taking the Chargers on Sunday.

You can't take the Chargers seriously because of Norv. Rivers could throw for 10k in the regular season and Norv will still choke the life out of his own offense in a playoff game.

Interesting parallel. The difference is that the Jets young gun is panning out and the Cards young gun didn't. Just goes to show the abject terror involved in drafting a QB in the first round. Coughvinceyoungjaycutlermattleinart

I'm afraid Favre might not end because Arizona and Larry Fitzgerald/Steve Breaston/Doucet need a QB.

Favre's nuts but he can't be THAT nuts..can he? If I'm the Cards, I want no part of drafting any of this year's crop of college QB's (Jake Locker, anyone?). I can see Wisenhunt trading for someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick after the season, and then drafting a project like Ricky Stanzi late. But, he's not going to tie the Favre albatross around his neck at this point.

If I'm the Texans, I quietly shop Schaub early in the off-season and see if someone offers me a couple of high picks for him. There's no way that a guy like that can inspire confidence in that team. Talented, but a pussy. That Texans bunch was easily the worst secondary I've ever seen, btw. That DC job might be a nice landing spot for Marvin Lewis or Eric Mangini if they get fired.

The Steelers > Ravens. The D is better than the Ravens, and Roethsliberger >>>> Flacco.

Ravens are a slapdick offense. It was probably a mistake to move away from the power running game the way they have.

Whoever gets to coach and clean out the Cowboys will be a lucky guy. Build on Ware, Bryant, and Romo and go from there...each has years left on them at some key spots.

If Garrett doesn't keep that job, the Cowboys are the top opening by far, followed by the Dolphins, IMO. San Fran has less than zero at the QB position and are probably two to three years away from getting it together on offense as a result. Plus, the ownership has no money, so you're going to have to build exclusively through the draft while your own FA's walk every year. The Dolphins have a lot to work with at key positions all over the field--LT, CB, QB(?), Rush OLB's. They're one good off-season and a good coach away from being a major pain the a$$.

The Eagles most underrated unit the secondary. They've played great, especially since the DL lost Bunkley. This is their year since this is probably the best season they'll get some Samuels. They're the real reason the Eagles might beat the Giants out.

Eagles secondary is nice, but it's helped that Vick is able to put up points. You can run on the Eagles because they're so tiny up front (4.0 ypc against) but the threat of Vick hanging 30 on you looms large. If you try to throw it 40 times against Trent Cole and Asante Samuel, you're probably going to get pwned at some point.

Mangini's the man and keeping the Cleveland job.

Sketchy. I think this depends 100% on the whim of Mike Holmgren. If he's jonesing to coach again, Eric has given him enough ammunition to fire him outright without looking like he snaked him. Holmgren might see Colt McCoy, a decent O-line, Peyton Hillis--add a few weapons in free agency--and fatcat his way back to the sidelines.
