What is the point of this? that whole play opened up exactly like shotty wanted. that was pitch and catch in the park, low hanging fruit, candy from a baby
Stonehands
Depending on who follows him, it signals what defense the secondary is in. That's kind of useful information to have pre-snap.
Sperm Edwards
One time before he retires we're going to consider throwing it to him. And what a play that will be. Gonna fool everyone. Well worth sacrificing 1/5th of our non-QB/linemen all the plays leading up to it. Plus there's also the flexibility of motioning him inside and running up the gut. Or had you forgotten about that. Now don't you feel dumb? I thought so.

#27TheDominator
I don't get the complaint He was followed out of the backfield and covered and the pass went right over the spot vacated by that LB. If that's how they cover it,I don't see the detriment. As Stonehands said, the actual purpose is probably to help determine coverage. Which is why they probably insist on running that annoying TRich motion into and out of the slot before run plays.
SenorGato
It's much too vital for the offense to do that! No really...how often does this happen anyway? Plus as others mention the play worked perfectly. There was routes and everything.

The plays are designed so that only a defense coached by idiots and executed by idiots could possibly make the play look well designed. I bet GB just laughed every time something like this was tried. Even if they "just laugh" the motion works. It tips off the coverage. You guys can't complain about everything the guy does.

T0mShane
Sorta kinda makes you wonder about Sanchez's ability to read a defense if he needs an otherwise useless formation shift to figure out if it's man coverage or not. Especially given how Sanchez struggles when they spread receivers out and ask him to just drop back and throw it without some pre-snap subterfuge involved. Especially given how Sanchez struggles when they spread receivers out and ask him to just drop back and throw it without some pre-snap subterfuge involved. 1. We know Sanchez's ability to read a defense is still developing. 2. It's not useless if they learn something and it may show them much more than just if it's a man or a zone. It doesn't even mean that Richardson will be split. He often motions right back inside. It certainly doesn't cost them anything. 3. It may be remnant of a Schottenheimer H-back offense. For his first few years they had next to nothing at FB. Just Darrien Barnes. They used a lot of TE at the fullback. I would think that some of these formations and plays would make more sense with a different player at FB. A Richie Anderson type. Maybe Brian Leonard. Maybe they could use Keller or Cumberland there. They may just keep using the play because it works.
