Jetlag
Rex is still a good coach and Mark is still an up and coming QB. That said, the Jets have lost their identity. It didn't just start this week either. It's been looming for a month now. That identity being RUN. The offense this year was supposed to be as much about Shonn Greene as it was Mark Sanchez. Sure the passing game got some shiny new toys and Mark's decision making got better but the Jets were always meant to be a ground and pound team. We have totally gotten away from that. Having Mark be so careless with the ball last season was almost a blessing in disguise because it forced Shotty into developing our zone running game. If this team is going anywhere this season it has to return to the O-line. Who is certainly not blameless. The only way they are going to quickly turn this around and make a run in the playoffs as a road team is by getting back to their core, their identity. Putting this game all on Mark's shoulders to win or lose was complete idiocy. So I guess inadvertently I'm saying the playcalling sucks which then lays the blame all on Schottenheimers feet but I don't think he deserves all of the blame. This is also Rex's fault. Last season he made it crystal clear that their bread and butter was to run the ball and that that would never change. It seems Schottenheimer's judgement is being clouded with fantasies of getting his own HC job, so he creates these overcomplicated schemes and game plans that don't seem to have direction or purpose. Instead the playcalling has the order of a Chinese fire drill. If the Jets are to return to that place we left them back in January of 2010, it starts and ends with their running game. Now lets hope our coaching staff is wise enough to remember that.

Jetsfan80
This is not the same defense as last year which does not help either Yep, we lost our identity on defense too. We brought in a finesse corner (Cromartie), a safety who was supposed to be the anti-Rhodes but can't do a damn thing well instead (Pool), and nobody who could do what Rex wants to do the most; get to the QB (F*** Gholston and Jason Taylor). We give even bad offenses and QB's plenty of time to throw, and our slow LB's can't cover guys on underneath routes. Multiply that problem by 10 against the Pats, who have a great QB and about 50 guys who are excellent at catching short passes and turning them into 1st down after 1st down. LWC611
I do not agree with your title Jetlag, because in a game where you are completely dominated, on both sides of the ball. I do not think you can find a main reason. The Patroits create greater matchup problems for the Jets with their crew of TE's and their WR corps. When they played zone they got picked apart. When they blitzed they got hurt with quick passes. Our offense well the best player at QB last night (or any other night we play them)was not wearing green lets put is that way.... Notwithstanding the above, I agree with you Jetlag that we have gotten away from being a run first offense. That was supposed to be our identity. Now that we are in December, I hope we go back to the ground and pound. But that only takes care of the offense. 4HCrew's post about this D is not being the same as last year's is putting it mildly. This D has needed to be bailed more often then not.. I am by no means preparing to jump off of a bridge (none of us should be) or declare that they should Just End The Season, but last night's game told the Jets where they are are in relation to their main rival. That butt whipping was so bad that I almost forgot that the Jets beat the Pats earlier this year. The problem is while the Jets are not the same team that beat them in week two, the Pats are hardly the team that lost to us. We are better even if we did not show it last night, however they appear to be way better than the team we faced in week two. Well that is done, it is all about the fish now. The Dolphins should not want to play us, because we need redemption (a win) after a loss like that. Lick your wounds faithfull fans. (I have already got e-mails from colleagues in my office giving me the business of course one is a Pats fan from Chowderland...the other a Skins fan who has recieved my condolences a couple of times this season) as bad as that was it is over. Let's look forward to next week, and from here on out, my hope that the Jets let their play speak for them. (What I really want to say is Rex, Shut up and Coach the Jets will not talk themselves to the SB.) Because at the end of the day it is your play and not your words that define you as a team. GO JETS!!!!!
SMC
The Jets lost because: (1) Schotty decided to change the offense to face the league's worst passing defense rather than forcing the Pats to stop them. (2) Rex caught a case of stupid in challenging the spot and then going to Folk on a long FG in the wind. (3) Eric Smith sucks so bad he couldn't track the underthrown ball in the air that fell at his ankles behind him. (4) Weatherford horribly shanks a punt within the Jets territory. Because of those 4 things the Jets are down 0-17 in the 1st Q and the game is over. Everything else was gravy.

I agree, but I think last night they could have ran all over the Pats and that might have been the plan, but when you put yourself in a whole that early, you panic and start to throw way too much

He didnt look bad in garbage time give the kid a chance.

Our monster "ground and pound" offense last year averaged 20 more. The defense is not nearly as good as it was last year. That is crystal clear. Jetlag
I do not agree with your title Jetlag, because in a game where you are completely dominated, on both sides of the ball. I do not think you can find a main reason. I agree. In fact almost as soon as I submitted the thread I said to myself I wish I titled it "The main reason we couldn't win." Sure we lost because of pure execution and the defense, but those things have been present throughout the season. Let us not forget that we kept a Packers to 9 points and even those 9 points were horsecrap. Not to say that the defense has been lights out this season or even as good as last season but at least it has shown it's face. The defense dominated last game in fact. The running game hasn't looked good in forever and it just doesn't have the same feel as last season's run game. Where are the cut back lanes that you could drive a mac truck through? Where is Greene's break away speed? Where is Shotty's determination to make sure Mark doesn't feel all the heat. Where is Rex to make sure Shotty is doing his job?
