Alright, I'm over it.

It took a couple days, but the initial sting is gone.

The Jets have broken my heart worse than this, and frankly, I don't subscribe to a philosophy of looking backwards. SOJ fans look backwards. New Jets fans have to look forward, as much as it might not be instinctive to do so, we have to.

But before we look forward, I must contradict myself slightly with a history lesson:

2008, Week 14: A couple weeks removed from their heroic week 11 win in Foxboro, and then their week 12 win vs. Tennessee to snap the Titans undefeated streak... the Jets would go on to Buffalo to win their last game of the most disappointing season in recent memory, the win vs. Buffalo sandwiched between huge upset losses to San Fran, Denver, Seattle and Miami. Ultimately, it didn't matter whether or not they beat the Pats in week 11, because there was too much football left and they fell apart down the stretch.

2009, Week 14: After getting their asses handed to them in Foxboro in week 11, 31-14, the Jets went on to 3 straight, including a complete clobbering of TB in week 14, just before week 15 when they would beat themselves vs. Atlanta. After the Atlanta game Rex would go on to discuss being out of playoff contention, we all know what happened next... all the way to the AFC Championship and about 30 minutes from the SB.

2010, Week 14: The Jets got humiliated by the Patriots on MNF in week 13. Rex is getting roasted in the papers for the first time in his tenure. BUT... The Jets are 9-3, and 3 games up for a wildcard spot in the AFC. Right behind the Patriots for the division lead, and the Dolphins and Bills are struggling to stay relevant. If you told me we'd have this big a lead on the wildcard after week 1, I'd have thought you were crazy... if you told me we could still win the division after a loss like Monday, I'd have kicked you in the jimmy. We are in good shape. Rex doesn't have a long history with us, but I suspect he responds well to this adversity.

Now... all of our issues aside, this is a good football team. There are not GREAT teams in the league this year. There are a couple teams that do some things extremely well, and have just as many other shortcomings as the Jets. This season has shown that one week, has absolutely nothing to do with the next.

Cleveland stomped the Patriots. We beat Cleveland. The Patriots stomped us... wash, rinse, repeat...

The only question I have is, how badly can we embarrass the Dolphins this week?

I'll be over it if the beat Miami on Sunday.

If not it could be a very long final 3 weeks.

Obviously, I reserve the right to regress if they lose to Miami.

That said, **** Miami.

I had Chads Hennington, I had night vision Sporano, and I hate teal.

I want this:

Cool. One question.

So all of us underachieving hacks' (free) pregame analysis showed the team needed to handle NE's quick small TEs. The professionals that run the Jets' D (for lots of money) brought nothing to handle this contingency. Those small TE's then ate our lunch.

We're confident they'll gameplan the D properly moving forward?

I'm not going to mention the Offense that reliably scores as long as they start past the 50. That can't be fixed, but we need the D to cover the weak O for me to feel better.

I gotta be honest, I wont be happy if jets win by less than 10 points. I just feel like I need to see a dominating game (something we havent seen since week 4 at Buffalo) to start really believing that they are a legitimate championship team.

I agree, and by dominate, I want every TD to come from real honest-to-god offense. 2 KRs for a score and 3 picks that start the Offense in the red zone don't count. Champions know they can score on drives that start from their 20.

Dude. I know what the "problems" are, and have sufficiently bitched about them, and I know what I could be complaining about for the next 2 months, but today... I am not complaining.

In life, you can only control what you can control. I can't control Rex, or Pettine, and certainly not Schotty, I can't make Sanchez more experienced than he is, I can't fix Jim Leonard's leg... but I can control how I react to this sh*t.

I could act like calamity Jane, like many of us have, myself included, and do the whoa is me bit... but it hasn't worked thus far, and it hasn't worked for Jets fans for 40+ years right? So... I'm trying something new. I'm going to try to focus more on the things they have going for them, as opposed to their shortcomings. After all, the positives still out-weigh the negatives ten fold.

I realized something today... in the past few years, I have been too outwardly affected by this football team. If they **** up, I can't wear it on my sleeve - I don't want people saying, "you're in a bad mood, did the Jets lose?" to me ever again. Its embarrassing.

This. If they're winning I'm happy. Style points don't matter to me, and if we get a playoff win too, awesome. Just means to me we're getting there, sustained success and a shot at the title. I guess I'm not a real fan.

If being a "real fan" means there are people in my life that don't know anything about me, other than that I'm seemingly in an abusive relationship with a joke of a football team. Then I guess I am a "real fan" and frankly, I don't want to be that guy.

I dunno may it came with becoming a grown-up with the birth of my son but Sunday's are about just not thinking about anything and watching a sport I loved to play and miss playing. The Jets losing gets me down for about 2 hours after the game and then that's it. But they are abusive, but they do it because they love us right?!

Ok Integrity, I get it now, thx. I think I'll try to adopt your attitude also.

Maybe only having a main 'football' forum is part of the problem for us.

What if we had a subforum like: "Things that need fixing" so we can vent on one occasion, but then use the main forum for shared support of what we like about the team?

I'm not sure why your being snarky about it Jerry... but obnoxiousness is only helping make the case for my "I don't want to bitch about this anymore" decision.

I get the 2008 feeling again. This time were playing good teams though.

The Jets can never get past that 10 win hump. Its like December comes and we go through the motions. They've won more than 10 games once in my lifetime....not coincidentally the one year I really bought into this team and really felt we were the best team in football.

They really should make the playoffs barring the worst collapse in franchise history(saying a lot).

The end of the 2004 season was very disappointing, started out 9-3 to finish 10-6...so that comparison can be made too. But we did go on to beat SD in the playoffs.

That 10 win hump...

But Rex got the Jets to the afc championship game as a rookie hc with a rookie qb last yhear. he will fall back on that experience and come out and fight on sunday!

Now that I think about it ,its more like 2004. Squeaking by mediocre teams, lose every game in December and back in as a WC and hope we get Jacksonville round 1.

9-3 to 10-6 and the Steelers backups had to beat the Bills that year.

Similar scenario this season. Luckily we have a 3 game lead on the next possible team. But if anyone can blow that, its the Jets.

I'm in full negative mode.

You and me both, I'm typically very negative toward this team. But I'm not letting one loss ruin what could be an amazing season. I'd love nothing more than to whip the sh*t out the Dolphags, go 13-3 and listen to all these jokers make excuses of why they felt the need to bash a HC thats done more for this team in the last 2 years than anyone in the last 40.

Great post. Lets Go Jets!!! Squish the Fish!!!

It's more than just Rex. I'm not bashing Rex...at all. Its the skepticism that the Jets can beat good teams in December in hostile environments. The Patriots,Steelers and Ravens get tougher this team of year...its time for the Jets to match that and not look like they're waiting for the regular season to end.

We've seen them fail too many times at this. They still have a great opportunity to get into the playoffs hot, division winners or not.

Dude, I'm with ya and every other year I'd be right there with ya. Hell, this season, I havent picked the Jets to win a game all year long...some in fun, but most of the time, I'm serious. This team and Rex Ryan have done things, and shown me signs, that I've never seen from a Jets team. So I guess thats why I'm taking this loss and trying to make myself more positive moving forward. I'm not letting one game ruin what I think could be a special season and rather than fester in pity, I want to stay positive and take on the spirit of our HC.

The season didnt end on Monday Night...in a lot of ways...its just begun.

A fight always changes when you get punched in the mouth, hard. The kind of shot that you don't see coming and everything goes kinda quiet and fuzzy. Do you just panic? Or do you try and center yourself and swing harder? That's what I liken it to. Do the Jets just curl up in the fetal position and wait for the meltdown? Or do they buck up and go out there and show what this team is made of? I guess part of me believes in them because the games we won, I was used to seeing us just drop. This team continued to persist. I'm hoping that Rex can get that back for us and I believe in him because he's the first coach I can remember trying to step on the neck of the SOJ mentality.

A lot of Herm's team squeaked out wins against sh*tty opponents...to be fair.

Sorry, actually I was being sincere. Kinda thought an 'annoyances' subfolder might lift the demeanor in the main football forum.
