Matt39
Tom Glavine scenario here... Plenty is riding on Vernon Gholston's first sack. The Jets' defensive end, New York's 2008 first-round pick, keeps getting closer and closer to the first sack of his NFL career. According to NFL Players Association documents, Gholston needs only one sack to trigger a $9.1 million roster bonus that the Jets would have the option to pick up next March. Gholston also could activate the $9.1 million bonus with 20 percent play time this season or one fumble recovery. If the Jets declined to pick it up, Gholston then would become an unrestricted free agent. This is an escalator that the Jets worked into Gholston's contract last offseason, when the two sides agreed to restructure his deal. So one sack, one fumble recovery, one interception or 20 percent play time could mean a big payday -- or it could punch Gholston's ticket out of New York. Green DNA
OK, so he's gone either way. He will never see a penny of that money (in the unlikely event he gets a sack).

Integrity28
As much as it sucks that he didn't pan out. I can't hate on the guy - I thought it was a stand-up thing to do, to restructure the way he did.

Rex has taken nobodies and turned them into pretty good OLB's and DE's. If Gholston can't play for Rex, he can't play for anybody. Hell, Mike Devito makes plays in this defense. SenorGato
I'm guessing you're joking considering he's only played for two and half seasons and didn't do sh*t the first two. Umm...he was an UDFA who made his way onto the main roster back in '07...got a start in '08...got heavy playing time in '08...got alot of praise for his work ethic, tenacity, and general play in both seasons...by '09 he got his weight up from the 295 or so he was in '07 to a solid 305...lack of DL depth made him a starter and here we are. DeVito's been a factor on the roster since the Jets picked him up...I specifically remember him getting alot of love from the organization in both '07 and '08. He's been the top backup on the DL since '07. Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Brian Schottenheimer zealot of JN... Senorrrrrrrrrrr GATO!!!! Oh Jah...I miss Brooklyn... bitonti
everyone knows Gholston's sack numbers but seriously does anyone know his snaps? it seems like he's rarely on the field in passing situations. The nickel package is usually Pace, Taylor, Pryce and Ellis... sometimes Thomas. Gholston plays in goalline and in the 4-6 bear look. Not exactly sack-friendly formations. and as a side note everyone kills Gholston... but Pace gets a free pass? Gholston gave back his money already. Pace is getting paid like a superstar and has what... 3 sacks this season? Can't stay healthy or avoid suspension? What's the deal with Pace? On a team that is desperate for a pass rush, with it's best outside rusher having a down year, Gholston can't even get on the field on obvious passing downs. This is the argument you're using to defend Gholston, is it?
