2nd- and 3rd-Day QB Prospects

We need a young QB to back up Sanchez and provide the possibility of a soft landing if he continues to be horrible. Brunell is ancient and the Jets seem to hate Clemens. O'Connell's got a torn labrum and tiny hands. I was hoping we could develop Ainge, but he went Tyrone Biggums on us. Possibilities?

Ponder (FSU), Stanzi (Iowa), Dalton (TCU), Devlin (Delaware), Kaepernick (Nevada), Potts (TT)...if the Jets were to lose Brad Smith I wouldn't be against Tyrod Taylor (VT)...Not really anyone exciting, but I'm sure there's guy in this bunch who can turn into a good backup/developmental guy.

Note that I think Ainge is/was better than pretty much all of these guys...and I'm a big fan of athletic bloodlines. If he stops getting suspended for steroids I'm pretty fine with him as the organizational developmental QB guy.

I like Ainge too, but he looks like a complete ****up at this point. Stanzi and Ponder are decent but if we're taking a later-round guy I'd prefer one with a big arm. Have you seen Enderle at all?

Really only the Idaho-Bowling Green Bowl game last year...He's got stuff like size, moxie, and college experience on his side...decent arm...pretty rough mechanically which probably hurts his arm strength because when he steps into a throw it's got good velocity...doesn't strike me as an idiot in any kind of major way...decent athlete for the position...definitely a 6-7 rounder or even UDFA type...

Stanzi is someone I want to buy because I really like Iowa's program under Ferentz...he's decent...Ponder I could like but he's got less physical talent than pretty much all of these guys...Kaepernick is pretty interesting, especially if he were to be picked outside of the first 4 rounds...Devlin too actually but over on NFLDC there's a poster or two who'll talk of him having a Flacco-esque rise...Haven't really watched a ton of CFB this year though so don't really have a feel for where these guys will go after "not the first round" is/was established. Most of them will probably come off the board in the 4-7 range.

Don't ignore FA though...if the Giants let go of Sorgi as a backup I'd be very interested in bringing him in....obviously not much of a developmental guy, but Sorgi's supposed to be a really smart guy and you gotta figure he learned a thing or two working with Manning/Moore for years...Guy's got future coach written all over him.

Ainge only got suspended once for juice. The second time it was "recreational issues".

FWIW, Ainge was probably the best QB in uniform at last year's training camp. He throws every pass with absolutely no fear. He really looks the part.

So we draft a shrimpy noodlearm with 16 collegiate starts, and our best chance for a soft landing ends up in rehab for a thizz addiction? Only the ******* Jets.

:D

If only we could give Sanchez a thizz addiction, that would really open the door for the epic Ainge v. O'Connell Battle Royale next season.

Ecurb said O'Connell was better. I wonder if O'Connell gets any kind of shot next year. They obviously liked him, but the whole injury misdiagnosis thing seemed odd. Good chance there will be a spot with Ainge, Brunell, Smith and Clemens all far from locks.

Jets lose Brad Smith and want to run same formation with someone else I would prefer Dwight Dasher for MidTenn
