Maxman
Just installed it on my son's new PC. So far so good. Man the days of installing\setting up a new PC being a Pain might actually be gone. Pretty amazing. Anyone using Windows 7? I haven't used it yet, actually skipped Vista as well. Still have everything on XP.

Pretty amazing. Anyone using Windows 7? I haven't used it yet, actually skipped Vista as well. Still have everything on XP. I have been using it for a few months and like it a lot. The only quirky thing I have run into is my battery not charging on my laptop one day. It would show plugged in, but not charging Had to remove battery, uninstall the battery from device manager, reboot and then it worked fine. This is a desktop so I think I won't have that issue. I am having a hard time with the audio driver though. This was a refurbished box, it came with drivers but I don't think it supports Windows 7. Can't find any on the web either. So far now all is well except the sound....that is the first project of 2011.

Bob
I'm still on Vista and really don't see what all the complaints were about. Apple propaganda, most likely.

Vista is horribly inefficient and requires good hardware for nothing. 7 is leagues better and it's apparent on both top-end and budget hardware. It's a massive improvement. JerryK
My only issue with Win7 (64 bit) has been the occasional driver, or really old apps not running right. But generally, it runs well.

Boozer76
I had Vista on my last laptop and 7 on my current one. Vista was great, never once had an issue with it. 7 is even better. Not sure what all the hate hype was about.

Take a look at this for your old apps. It works great. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ I downloaded it an created a virtual xp desktop that my kids use as their pc. I got Windows 7 Enterprise from my job and it is sooooooo much better that Vista it isn't even funny. It even has an option to do full system image backups which has been a lifesaver for me at times. Also if you download microsoft virtual pc you can basically create a virtual xp box for any old applications.

Cisco VPN clients weren't supported last year so I had to install the VMs. The other images are linux etc for various things.
SenorGato
Using it for the first time...just bought a Dell netbook for 20 bucks brand new (wouldn't usually look at a Dell but 20 bucks for a laptop while my main laptop is down? F8ck yeah)...gotta say I really like it so far but haven't really done anything with it.
CTM
imo XP >>>>>>>>>> win 7 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> vista dont' get me wrong, win7 has some nice features, but it's retained a lot of vista' stability issues. For instance, I regularly fail when coming out of hibernation and have to hard stop the computer (losing a lot of what had open)
rillo
Still on XP on my home desktop....I use 7 @ my job and I like it. Vista was trash IMO.
neckdemon
i haven't gone to 7 yet but will eventually. i want to upgrade to 64 bit when i make the transition so i will have some backing up to do i guess. i also don't really get all the vista hatred. it's been on my computer for a couple of years. never once have i had any problems with this computer. runs fast and runs just as well as it did when i first set it up. i think half the people that trash vista are just parroting something they read somewhere. obviously 7 is supposed to be better as it supposedly consumes less resources as vista did. SenorGato
Word. I never had any issues. I put Vista on my laptop back in the days when it first attacked...just to try to it out...crashed. I blame the Vista, and went back to the XP. I'm sure if I remove that bias it probably wouldn't have been too bad, but f*ck Vista.

My wife has a Vista machine that has both the problem with "plugged in not charging" and the hard starting coming out of hibernation that CTM mentioned. It's faster than my XP machine, but it was also 30% more expensive and 6+ years newer. It should be.

serphnx
I just built a new system using Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals a bit over a month ago. I tried Windows 7 but it would randomly blue screen on me, so I just went back to XP. I also have XP at work. I will eventually move up to Windows 7, if only because the graphics card I purchased has DX11, and that's only going to be on Windows 7. I think they kind of dropped the ball with this library thing, and gimped Windows Explorer. I'm sure the blue screens I could figure out a way around, although at this point I didn't care enough to. I don't think 7 will be good until SP1 at least, and even then I don't know. Again, the only real benefit to me would be for graphics on games. I don't really care enough about that at this juncture to upgrade however.
