Maxman
I never told anyone this but I am a huge fan of Rush. Sure, I could name all their songs and talk about what they mean to me. But that's not what this thread is for. It is more of a general, Rush makes me feel good kind of thread. I should have told you all earlier. I just wanted to keep it to myself. But I never miss a show. Oh and the dudes in the band? Yeah, I totally know their names, but I wont even list them here because it isn't important. What is important is that I am BFF's with two of them. Do you like Rush?

JerryK
My brother is a drum freak and spent HS (1980's) wired to Rush albums, and can follow anything Peart does note-for-note. (bass drum rolls included) Since I had to listen to it, I'm not so much of a Rush guy. -Peart's lyrics are like bad Harry Potter stories. Too many "mystic kublikans". -Geddy might be related to Mariah Carey..In every song, he does the same high-pitched shriek. ooooooffffff salesmen! -YYZ was a cool tune. There are so many notes in the scale... The 2 they chose for this song were genius. -Geddy lee is awesome playing bass, singing, and keyboards with his FEET. But how much better could the music have been if the cheap bastard had just hired a keyboard player?

But how much better could the music have been if the cheap bastard had just hired a keyboard player? 1. Peart hasn't written lyrics like that since the late 70s and it's "Kubla Kahn," not "kublikan." 2. Geddy hasn't sung like that in more than 25 years. 3. Correct. 4. Why hire a keyboard player? How would that have made perfect music better?

dbatesman
One of my buddies from college is a huge Rush dork, but a self-aware one. He always defends them by saying "Rush's music is complex and professional." Pretty much irrefutable if you ask me.

GimmeShelter
Saw them as a kid right after Temples Of Syrinx grabbed everyones attention. My buddy later named his band after that song. They used to come to a Civic Center in upstate NY about 30 minutes from me it seemed like every 6 months to a year back then. After Fly By Night I kind of lost interest but did play that and 2112 daily for a few years. Musically to me their albums after that never lived up to their early work. I am actually surprised that they are still so popular. Interesting fact: Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. I would not have guessed that in a million years.

I would not have guessed that in a million years. They lost a lot of the fans when they added more keyboards and went more Prog rock.. Those who stood by them saw that they constantly changed their style thru the years..They strayed from formats like caress of steel.. Hemispheres..2112...so thats what killed off some fans They are still so popular because they are like a huge underground cult band.. There are scores of still die-hard superfans (I myself being one) even after all this time.. They are currently touring and selling out venues.. This tour was all about the whole Moving Pictures Album in its entirety.. This was a major event because they even played Camera Eye and that never gets chosen on the set list...They finished the first leg of that tour up over the summer and are set to come back for the 2nd leg.. They play NY at MSG April 10th.. I'll be there of course!... I havent missed a tour since Signals 1982 and I have no intentions of ever missing one.. I'll be a rush fan til I die.. Just how it is.. I'm not the only fanatic that feels this way.. there is a Rushtour Forum with hundreds of members as dedicated as I am. We travel to different states and even countries and have huge meet-ups. Another one is set for that NY show.. People will fly from all over for it.. Its pretty wild.. I've met some really great people from the Rush board and we get together outside of it on our own.. Long term friendships have been formed because of those 3 guys.. The trinity anyway.. you get my drift.. I'm a Rush Chick Supreme! \m/ \m/
