"Free agent Nnamdi Asomugha will end up with the Jets or Packers."

Former Raiders beat writer David White believes impending free agent Nnamdi Asomugha will end up with the Jets or Packers.

"I know him well. ... Mark it down," said White. After playing for the Raiders for eight seasons, White says Asomugha wants to play for a proven winner. White added that the shutdown corner has said he'd like to play for Jets coach Rex Ryan and his best friend is Packers corner Charles Woodson. Asomugha will draw interest from virtually every team in the league as the best defensive player available, but fitting him under the new CBA's salary cap is another story altogether.

I don't see him as a Jet. Unless something happens with the CBA and Cap situation I don't see how we could pay him and Revis.

Which is unfortunate, but true. Imagine Revis and this guy on the field at once. Plus Cromartie. We wouldn't even need to draft a pass rusher. They put 3 at WR, we just send 6 or 7 after the QB every play!

Jets or Packers???

Are we now considered "proven winners"?

Uh ... yeah. Went to the Championship game last year and went 11 - 5 this year and just beat the defending AFC Champ to move to the divisional round. What would be your criteria?

Never going to happen. The Jets aren't paying over $30 million a year for two corners. There will be a salary cap again, and that would be simply impossible to afford. As it is, the Jets are going to have a tough enough time keeping everyone they want to out of Harris, Edwards, Holmes, Cromartie, Ellis and Smith before ever worrying about a guy like Asomugha. And Cromartie will certainly be a hell of a lot cheaper to retain than signing Asomugha as a FA. Sure it would be great, but at this point it's a complete pipe dream.

Weird. You mean to tell me, that top flight FA's want to play for Rex Ryan.

Dont they watch his press conferences?

Keep Cromartie.

How about sign Aso, switch him to safety which was his original position no?

Put him at FS and combine that with Revis next to him and that takes out half the field. But he's still going to want about 15 Million, which means we have no shot unless all of our current free agents are willing to play for discounts and we restructure some other deals.

On the plus side that will prevent Revis from getting bored. Him and Nnamdi would have a contest, which one of them will be thrown to least. It will be like the Maris and Mantle competition.

And don't you guys remember the thing where Aso said he wanted to play for the NYJ? I think Rex and Tanny could make it happen and STILL resign our key players.

At the very least set up a meeting for Mark Sanchez, Mangold, Fergusen, Holmes, Edwards, Harris, Revis, Scott, Pace, with Aso, and Bailey, visiting.

Step 2 lay out a plan to have every single one of them fit under the cap (guys restructuring, and taking less money) while being able to put together decent enough depth at other positions, and ask them all if they want to become the 90's Cowboys, with Revis, and Aso, at corner, and Bailey, and Leohnard at safety. Keeping the offense in tact.

If they don't like it and some of them need to get paid, (Harris is the only one on the list who has not made a boat load already) so be it but, you can't say we didnt try.

The big guys up are Edwards, Holmes, B. Smith, Cromartie and Harris.

Removing Brad from that since he's probably not AS big as the others.

I think we are bound to lose at least two of the remaining 4. Potentially 3 if we were to sign Nnamdi. Maybe you can keep Edwards, Smith, sign Nnamdi. Clearly gaining Nnamdi would make Cro unnecessary, but I'm not too hot on losing Harris either.

If there is any way to sign Asomugha, you do it. Even if it means dumping Revis. Dude is superior.

No, just no. Revis is 4 years younger and just as good as Aso who had just as much of a down year this year as Revis did (its scary what a down year means for these two). There is no way you get rid of Revis for another CB.

Then Jets fans need to bend their hardons for Asomugha.

As cool as it would be, I think we have learned that no amount of great DBs will compensate for no pass rush. I'd rather see an OLB or DE that can consistently get to the QB as the next most important piece on this defense. Barring that, a S/LB type that can jam and consistently cover bigger TEs like glue would be nice too.

And honestly, with all the negativity on this board, I think Cro is still one of the top #2 CBs in the league and we're lucky to have him. Anyone rather have Sheppard back?
