The offseason is off to a fast start for the New York Jets public relations department.  Deadspin.com claims to have information regarding New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and a minor.

From Deadspin:

So we’ve been working on a story the last couple weeks about Mark Sanchez’s romancing of a 17-year-old girl. She reached out to us first and agreed to cooperate. Then she didn’t. Then she did again. Now, of course, her lawyer has contacted us.

Making matters even more interesting is the letter that Deadspin has posted from an attorney, telling them there is no story here.

The entire story of what this legal letter hints at will be revealed on Tuesday. Rest assured, the lawyer has left out a few details. We won’t publish this young lady’s full name, but if the photos she sent to us from her Blackberry of Mark Sanchez’s bedroom — supposedly taken on her cell phone after she spent the night with him a few weeks ago — were not sent by her, then there’s more to this than previously suspected. Most likely, not, though. Just a hunch.

The full story appears on Deadspin complete with the attorney’s letter.  There is also a thread on this topic in our New York Jets forum.

Read the letter from the attorney. The girl and her lawyer deny it.

lawyers lie, like, for a living..

Now think about it. If it were true and the lawyer knew it, why deny it? If you deny it, no lawsuit.

discrete shakedown..

whats the legality of the grass on the playing field rule here?

Lawyers absolutely lie, but her lawyer would know that his statements in the letter (as her agent) acts as an admission against her. In other words, if she attempted to bring a lawsuit against Sanchez he could get it dismissed based on the attorney's letter. The lawyer would know that.

Also, there is something called the "public figure exception" to a defamation lawsuit. It protects the "speaker" from defamation suits by public figures. However, the exception doesn't apply where the "speaker" accuses the public figure of a crime, which this would fall under. Deadspin could be in a lot of trouble.

...

I am not sure if that was the girl that Deadspin is referring to or not. Just to be safe, and out of respect of her being a minor, I ask that her name not be posted in here.

We have no idea what the severity is here and google has a way of making this stuff permanent. Thanks.

If you really know about Mark Travis John Sanchez you know that when Mark was at USC he was falsely accused of attempted date rape by a USC coed. Mark was suspended from the USC football team from April to June while this little accusation was investigated by the LAPD. You can read the full story on Wikipedia, just search for Mark Sanchez. I was living in LA at the time, and the news media got a hold of it for about a minute. Seems that there was a couple next door who heard nothing and were friends with this girl. She showed no signs of attempted rape, didn't scream out, didn't seem upset when they vacated the rooms later that night. She later recanted. No apology ... nothing.

Now this. You know, there's a ton of ways someone could get hold of a picture of Mark's bedroom. He's not bothering to deny or make comment about this because, once again, it's bull. I go back to the "reporter" from Azteca TV in the Jets locker room. I took offense, not to any comments made to her, but to her demeanor and choice of "attire". There's a whole crew of women reporters on ESPN (for example). All of those women dress well. This girl was dressed like a little chippy on the Venice Boardwalk hunting for guys. What could she possibly expect? If my 21 yr old daughter were to dress like that and go into a locker room and then complain to me, we'd have a little mommy daughter chat...but then she's not stupid.

Then we have that incident with Brett Favre. So 2 years later it occurs to this woman to take offense. Really? And Favre has to pay $50,000 for not cooperating with the commish. I don't blame him. Another one that wants 15 minutes of fame.

As a woman I take offense to this kind of false accusation. When there is something that actually happens for real it won't be taken seriously. Mark is a good looking guy (yes he is fellas). He's got a few bucks. But he comes from a family that doesn't need his money. His oldest brother is a lawyer, his middle brother is a mortgage broker, and his father is a retired LAFD captain. His father made sure that his boys got an education (Mark has bachelor's degree in communications from USC, which he got in 3 1/2 yrs) and grew up with discipline. This is not an immigrant family, they've been here 3 generations. This is a family who is living the American dream. Please let's cut the publicity on this, don't give it place.

The lawyer here has clearly told these folks to cut the crap or he'll sue. Hope he does. And tell Mark his best answer is "NO COMMENT". I'm not buying this.
