But as bad as things went on the field, the final indignity occurred after the game. While a tearful Herm Edwards turned his news conference into a passionate defense of his team's effort, the opinion of at least one Panthers player was decidedly different.

Cornerback Ken Lucas, who made the biggest play of the game (an end zone interception when it was 10-3), slammed the Jets by using the dreaded "Q" word.

"They kind of gave up after that because they felt like they couldn't score," Lucas said. "You thought, at the end of the game, that they would at least try to throw the ball for the end zone, but they just ran the ball and ran the clock out. It's good when you can make a team quit on you. That says a lot."
